Jayx, do you still dress like the Quaker oats guy?

No, the quaker oats guy is much more modern in comparison. Here's the latest photo of him taken from the Canadian passport database:

Does anyone actually know what their visit will cost Canada directly?

See in bold below... It aint cheap at $4-6, plus a ton of lost dignity.

Canadians appear to be turning off the royals though. In a national opinion poll conducted in November, 2010, 61 per cent of Canucks said they believe the monarchy should not have any formal role in Canadian society because the royals are “simply celebrities and nothing more”.

Using Access to Information data on previous royal visits, along with anticipated expenses by the provinces, CCR has estimated that the 8-day royal visit will cost an estimated CAD$500,000 to CAD$700,000 (same AUD) per day or roughly CAD$4-6 million in total.

Due to the economic downturn, Canada has recently had Government programmes slashed in all areas, causing Canadian outrage at this unnecessary extra expense.

“How can spending unnecessary millions on this royal visit be justified?” said Tom Freda.

Also worth noting that the cost gets split up between the federal gov, and the prov/ter govs of the places they visit. So by making sure they don't stop in Quebec, they've actually saved themselves some coin, nice!

why don't you post this in the Montreal section Mr. Jester ?

And take that fag claude hughes with you...

For a nation without a culture of its own, people are more worried about the monarchy over other things? (being anti American is not a culture)

Funny how Quebecois have more culture than rest of Canada

Let's look at this another way

Does having the royals as head of state really affect your daily life? That it actually matters?

People bitch about how much elections cost as waste of money. Imagine how much money the govt will have to spend to change a whole lot of things that has royal emblems and whatnot. Like money. Or govt docs, etc

45% in Canada opposes it, 78% in Quebec.

Ontario alone is 33% opposed, hence the vast difference of opinions on either side of the Outaouais.

Yohan, this type of thing would be phased out over a period of time. The Royal Canadian Mint churns out new bills every year, it wouldn't be that bad cost wise done over an appropriate time frame.

As a country, the large gaps of population between large urban areas essentially means we have very little in common with our fellow countrymen from elsewhere in the nation. There is nothing unifying us at all. Why not at least have a currency that would speak to Canadians? The Queen certainly does not do this, and I can tell you that it is a big running joke here. Get with the times, what's next? Israelis putting Pharaohs on the Shekel?

As far as culture Yohan, I wouldn't exactly say that Quebecois have more of it than elsewhere in the nation. I think it is the case of the values and traditions being so different that they are more noticeable to someone not from here or experienced in it. It is also a case of "American culture" not being able to take as firm a hold here as in the rest of the country due to language. It is still here in a big way, but it still isn't quite the same as everywhere else because it just could not work that way here and would fail if not modified for Quebecois consumption.

There are just as many Quebecois "bougon" with no culture here per capita I would bet, than rednecks in the rest of the country. Having tastier food does not make us more cultured, just better.:p

Ontarians take their maple syrup for granted, therefore Quebec is more cultured.

I like the royals.
