For those who say we lack a culture, read up on history instead of making ignorant statements. Our culture itself is multiculturalism whether you believe/accept it or not. We were founded with 4 different cultures who didnt align themselves with each but agreed to live together with a common goal (not being taken over by the US and having all cultural identity wiped). Ever since then we have welcomed people from varying countries in waves at different times (Italians, Greeks, Chinese, Indians etc) and our culture is based on acceptance and a mix mash of everything these immigrants have brought to this country over the years + the culture of the natives.
lol. I'm a history major. and I'm just as proud to be a Canadian as you and any others.
but for the life of me, I can't find out exactly what makes Canadian culture different than others. well, except being not American and anti American. which is funny, because the way I see it, Canadians are basically Americans culturally, except we're think a little more liberal. heck, all our media is basically American. (and perfect way to assimilate another culture)
so, what is the Canadian culture?

Well with the longest unprotected border (or whatever that title is) being shared between us and the States you can count on our culture being very similar to theirs. Plus we were founded mostly by people from the same countries and around the same time. Add in that most large corporations we each have operate heavily on both sides of the border, similar/shared media as you said, and our culture is indeed close to theirs.
I would say the biggest difference is our acceptance of different cultures living amongst each other. Americans from the start have said if you live in our country you are American, no ifs ands or buts. Even if you compare our current immigration procedure, the American one requires you to basically say you are American and renounce other origins whereas the Canadian one doesn't.
When Canada was founded you had the 4 groups each with their own area, own culture, own population, and they agreed to avoid disputes and work together. Current day you can look at Toronto and say the same thing is in place with Little Italy, Greektown, Chinatown, Little India etc. and even further so with minority populated Brampton and Markham. In many other countries these sub groups would clash with each other or the general public but for the most part I'd say they get along.
This is all my opinion of course but that's why I don't think people often see our culture. Traditionally you think Italy = Italian culture, German = German culture etc. but the fact is we have way too many cultural groups and are way to young of a nation to come up with a set and clear definition like you can for most countries.
According to the 2001 census by Statistics Canada, Canada has 34 ethnic groups with at least one hundred thousand members each, of which 10 have over 1,000,000 people and numerous others represented in smaller amounts
We arguably have more multiculturalism going on in Canada than any other country in the world. Australia would be close if anyone but they are far from multicultural harmony. I think on top of the stereotypical things like our wildlife, land, 4 seasons, hockey etc. multiculturalism is our culture.
That being said yes, immigrants that show up with unreasonable demands or false sense of entitlement are quite annoying and always will be. I'm not saying all that BS is ok. But, on the grand scale of things Canada's many cultures live in harmony and that is extremely impressive as well as not replicated anywhere else in the world.

I was going to go off about this, but my rant would be too long and would open up a whole new can of worms. Lets just say I FIRMLY disagree with how you worded this segment of you post.
Edit:
My life experience: Not everyone in the USA is a redneck conservative who refuses to intermix cultures and will not accept you identifying yourself as "Italian American, African-American, Hispanic-American, etc......" clearly people watch too much TV and dont bother asking how the daily living is ;) ;) You are clearly misinformed with the daily-going-ons of this country as a whole and how people treat each other....because your statement does not reflect how MOST of us outside that "hillbily" lifestyle actually views such a topic.....I find *most* Americans to be very similar in Canadians in that they expect you to work with the laws and culture, but as long as you arent hurting anybody or interfering with anybody, both countries are pretty good with others having their traditions and cultures

Jesus, one can never have a discussion on this forum, because within a few pages someone is getting a personal attack thrown at them, in which has nothing to do with the conversation. Grow up, please!!

So I read that as Canadian culture is multiculturalism (meaning, we don't have a distinct Canadian culture)

Sorry if you took that to offense but if you read it I wasn't referring to people such as yourself at all. Moreso the population back when the States was founded (scroll up and read about Louisiana and French assimilation for an example) and the current immigration procedure.
So unless you are a 300 year old American or you have a direct involvement in the current immigration procedure I would relax on this. Besides I wasn't even trashing anything, I was just saying it's different than what we do in Canada with no reference to which is better. Most longtime inhabitants of a country would probly choose the American style over ours if we had the choice anyways...
