Simply put, the difference between IGK and a toilet is that the toilet doesn't follow you around. Additionally, however, he paints himself as a target, whether it's making small usage mistakes like his constancy in substituting your for you're or making puns, lately, that don't even measure up to the old-school IGK standards and are, more often than not, out of context. Such behavior is an irritant bound to arouse at least a modicum of contempt.
I don't really mind IGK, but the hostility you perceive directed at him is probably because IGK is unintentionally funny in a Jar Jar Binx sort of way. While his intent may be to provide comic relief, his persistence, as a clumsy oaf who's practically owned by the one-liners he's famous for and absolutely stumbles his way through his attempts at longer, more meaningful exchanges, is a cloying reminder of who most people don't want to be, and in that regard, he earns every bit of it. |
