Yea the club was very busy and that is a successful night for the club. That's nice. I'm sure they also could have had a successful night by not appealing to the lowest common denominator as well. I would argue that if they book Hawtin, Locodice v Carola, Vath or a Vagabundos night etc (commercial names but on the opposite end of the spectrum to guys like Kaskade & Axwell) on one of these long weekend parties the club would still be heaving at the seems. But that is GUV for you ... |
Disagree, you would have it 60% as full as you do when packed with youngins cause #1 those artists appeal to 25-35 year olds and there's just not as many of them going out as when they were younger. Next time you find yourself at event with a young crowd (ie Avicii next weekend) walk around and ask them who Hawtin or Vath is and you'll see how well they are known with people under 25. Second of all that older market's tolerance for packed rooms is greatly less. Thirdly they drink a fraction of the booze and likely arent going through the water pounding, freezee slamming e-tard faze the 19-24 year olds are. The older crowd also has more sense than to be dropping much coin on bottle service. So no the capacity I don't think would be nearly as close to being full and the crowd once in the club would generate half the revenue on extras if even that. There's plenty of clubs in Toronto where the bookings you're talking about would work perfectly though and they actually happen, so just go to those events instead.
| quote: | | Really, it has never been known as a venue you would go to to hear cutting edge music. It's a place that has never been known as and will never be known as a trendsetting musical club. It's a club that follows trends (and is usually a couple of years behind in doing so). Right not it seems like they are biting on Vegas/LA with the lineups they are booking ... |
Couldn't agree more on that. I think it's because they'd rather play it safe and pack the place consistently than take a risk of having some events flop. They really haven't fully jumped on the dubstep $$ out there but watch for it to happen late this year or early next if it's still booming. The Toronto crowd as a whole is really critical and close minded as well imo. If you compare what exists in Toronto with some of the stuff from Montreal despite their population being much less they are a ton more creative and risky when it comes to venues/events/bookings. |

The place would be just as packed...doesn't matter which DJs you bring in. There are a fair amount of people that go to this event because of the event not the DJs. Plus there are the regulars who are there for every All Access and every Saturday night who don't care about which DJ is spinning. You could easily replace the people who wouldn't have bought a ticket because their DJ wasn't there for someone else who would go because of the new DJ.
They key is to have a little bit of both worlds. There is no reason they can't appeal to both ends of the spectrum. |

I think if you want to make 1 recommendation on avoiding the pure cheese events this would be definitely be it. If they had some balance like the DJ legends in 1 room and cheese in the other you'd be able to appeal to 2 different groups. It would also give the younger crowd some education and exposure to where their came from at the same time.
Your balanced approach makes sense but the people storming in saying cheese should be abolished just don't understand that it brings in the largest and most profitable crowd in Toronto. Smaller venues like FW can pull that off perfectly but for a venue with literally 40x FW's capacity it's not really an option. |

| Thought $60 at the door was a little steep for the lineup but there weren't allot of other options on the night. Tried to listen to axwell but when I walked into kool haus and heard boyz noise bangin it out I couldn't leave. Very impressed! Guv was rammed but it was easy getting between rooms and KH had lots of room. Definitely been to busier all access partys. |

wasent there another room supposed to be open?
Personally it was insane, i had to balance going between the cold patio and the boiling hot guv. Wish i could have stayed in KH more though, and pretty disappointed i missed calvin harris |

| Staff just told us only guv and KH were open (this was around 5ish). I doubt deko went on. |

Are you forgetting what it was like in it's heyday??
There where a small handful of clubs in the world doing what we were doing...
And I mean a SMALL handful... |
How was it back in the day? I just got into the guv scene (mainly because I get to hear newer/fresh music thats somewhat unreleased and not commercialized by z); though I agree the club is attracting the more house commercial dj's. i figure their just cashing in on whats popular rather then brining in talent to appease the old-school crowd.
Also, what are some other clubs in toronto to go to if i want to hear more new music? |

You won't see a line up like 2004+, until another massive club opens up in Toronto. Back then there was Boa, Sonic and Circa around. This forced Guv and System to book very competitively, every weekend and long weekend.
IMO the best lineup ever compiled was Labour of Love 2 in 2003. |

I saw the pics. It was rammed.
Bad news for us. This probably means even worse line ups then before.
My guv days are done |

No never saw deko-ze, was in the room waiting for him to go on but then the lights came on and bouncers started asking everyone to clear out. At that point I went back to kool haus and then guv to catch mark close, really enjoyed his set, went well with the end of the night |
