That's how most people get into the music. Not everybody is blessed with an abundance of electronic dance music knowledge without first being exposed to it through events that play EDM. All of you posting here were most likely new to the EDM scene at one time or another. Even if you had been listening to EDM in your basement for 10 years before attending an event that doesn't make you cooler than anybody else.
It's elitist and egotistical to say that you are better than someone else because they don't have the encyclopedia of EDM or trance knowledge that you do.
I'd rather play for a newbie crowd or an over-the-hill washed up "it used to be better in the old days" crowd any day of the week.
It doesn't matter what they go for, it's what they experience, learn, and take away from the event that truly matters.
, not everyone can be 100% all about the music like me... it's just not possible. ;) |

The noobs aren't the bad guys here, they're just out to enjoy themselves. The bad guys are the judgemental s with mistaken superiority complexes. |

You guys need to get over yourselves. You're complaining about the "quality" of people attending a show you'd never even go to in the first place featuring acts you don't even like listening to. What ing sense does that make? |

5 years of EDM experience or GTFO!!
Edit - i'm not opposed to trying to cultivate more "experienced" scenes, because I do find those parties more enjoyable for a variety of reasons. Still, complaining about how "our scene" is going bad because of a Dubstep show is stupid to me because its not "our scene" to begin with. Just because it's EDM doesn't mean can take ownership of it. |

this.
obviously the market for skrillex is HUGE. EDM? not really, he's nearly at the same level as others at the top (deadmau5, calvin harris, etc) guys who bridge that pop/EDM gap. No one goes to these shows that lives & breathes dance music, they are the cusp, the people who don't do a ton of digging on the music they like and follow the trends. There's nothing wrong with that btw, that's most of society.
Also, San Diego is now the 2nd/3rd most looked to city in the states for tours. LA has always been the focal point for artists tours, only in the last year has san diego become the second or third most important stop. Source: nearly every booking agent we've talked to. The scene here is the best it's ever been, there are more parties in a week here with more headline talent than what was here 5yrs ago over the course of 2 mos. It's remarkable |

And that's been going on since I started going to clubs in 02, before EDM was as "popular" as it is now.
So there may be people going now "because it's cool", but there have always been people going just to roll, and in neither case do they really care about the music. |

this thread can be summarized by the age old "kids these days!!!!"
i mean, come on, what do you think people 5-10 years older than you guys think they were saying when you were going to raves/trance ? they were calling you ing retarded candy kids*
just saying.
*obviously doesnt apply to everyone, but I know lots of people on these boards were stereotypical ravers in the 90s |
