srussel, i bet you if you asked your parents if "jesus walked on water, jesus is the son of god, humans are born with original sin, true selflessness exist." All the answers to these questions would probably be yes.

No.

I think taking a literal interpretation of text that was written by men over a thousand years ago is quite silly. The Bible, at least in my view, is more of a self-help book than anything else. Yes, my grandparents probably would answer yes to those questions, but my parents and my brother certainly wouldn't.

You're right, some Catholics choose to ignore the obvious farfetched nature of many of the writings in the Bible. Maybe I'm out of touch with the majority of Catholicism, as I haven't practiced the religion in about 6 years, but I know my family isn't that oblivious at least.

edit: I know those "anti-theists" endorse fighting fire with fire, but I sure as don't. I think its counter-productive, especially on issues like religion, which are often based on more than/something other than rationality.

If they are irrational how do you fight them then? Fighting fire with fire is probably the most productive way to get rid of religions. They should be ridiculed, harassed, and made to feel uncomfortable about having insane beliefs.

For you religious people every time you say you believe in god to someone in your mind replace god with santa. See how silly that feels? Don't you feel like an idiot now? What would you say if someone came up to you and expressed their trust and life to the hands of santa? :conf:

I would say the majority of catholics believe that jesus walked on water and is the son of god.

I guess so. The one thing I always had the biggest trouble with was the body and blood. I even remember saying to my Mom when I was younger, "do you literally believe this is the body and blood of someone who lived 2,000 years ago? I mean it's pretty obviously just bread and wine." She kind of just laughed and brushed it off and said something along the lines of "No, it just symbolizes it."

No! They must be eradicated! Every last one! They're always praying and going to church in large groups. They eat flesh and drink blood! Kill them all!

Jesus Christ, they are not praying... they are... preying!

Explain catholic communion then?

I actually would go so far as to equate them to zombies. They give up some measure of personal responsibility and control to something "higher." Granted its a mental condition that is actually causing them to think something else is in control of their lives or has any effect on it, but still. Its like a mental parasite.
