| luciano during the day would be cool! agreed with digweed n sasha. if they do that they need to bring in some other bedrock artists for warmup.drumcode would be fun (more than just beyer and ida) so many possibilities............. but more deephouse is a must |

Some really great reviews in here! I thoroughly enjoyed myself this weekend and this will definitely go down as the best Canada Day weekend to date!
Sunday Festival
On Saturday I parked about 1.5km’s away for $3 but the walk to get to the festival took a good 20 minutes as there was so much construction around so I had to take a detour. I deemed that it wasn’t worth it to save a few bucks (I’m a huge penny pincher if you haven’t noticed already lol) and that I would pay full price to park near the grounds the next day on Sunday. One thing I noticed right away is I could barely hear the music until I was a few hundred meters away. I was fairly disappointed by this as I was vividly reminded of the THUMPING bass rumbling down the streets in Detroit every year at DEMF. I mean, it really was noticeably quieter!! As I got closer to the bridge I saw a disgusting lineup and prayed that it would flow quickly. I heard rumours on Facebook that the Rogers Wireless was the better moving line but that was quickly trumped as I found out people had been waiting 2+hours. This was at 5pm. We tried to grease the bouncer $100 between 5 of us and he wouldn’t take take it. I said it and bailed. Went to a friend of a friend’s condo nearby on Front St. to get some drinks in my system and figure out what I was going to do... I was seriously thinking of just cutting my loses and going to pride for Superchumbo, but, something inside me told me to just go back and suck it up. To my surprise, when I arrived back at Ontario Place at 6:30pm....THERE WAS NO LINE. I was completely and utterly shocked!! I mean, how could an hour earlier be so retarded to the point that I couldn’t deal with the cluster and actually left, but, now there was only a handful (like 5 max) of people waiting to get their wrist bands?? Mind boggling! Maybe everyone came in a big wave for Gerber or something. Anyways, I got in and right away met up with everyone and caught the last 30 minutes of Guy Gerber.
Saturday Music
The last 30 mins of Gerber was tremendously groovy and was perfect to get me in the mood and let me succumb to my surroundings. Boris played decent, better than some sets I heard that weekend! Some bumping tech! Lawler was super duper fun – I loved some of the sound effects like trucks rushing by and creepy voice layer overs that he sprinkled throughout his set. Elements like that are why I thought overall Lawler was great and consistent! Then, easily, the best set of Saturday – Richie Hawtin! Mindblowing set IMO. His last hour he really stepped it up and was killing it!! Lots and lots of drummy snares, high hats, twisted loopity-layered minimal techno. I definitely dug a ing hole in the sand and was really sucked into his set :)
I left 5 min before he ended. Lost my sandals, and poured out half a kilo of sand from my shoes and backpack. My feet were black as if I just stepped out of a coal mine and I had a 20 min walk back to my car with calves that were on fire and sore! As soon as I got home I jumped into the shower and had a couple cold ones. All in all, I thought Saturday was a GREAT success :)
Sunday Festival
This time I decided to park at the grounds for $20 and split it with Sarah. Wise decisiou lol. Had a couple beers while listening to the game on the radio and headed in at half time. Lineup wasn’t nearly as bad as the day prior. I had to wait for my gf a bit to get her wristband as she didn’t come on the Saturday, but, there was a security lady walking through the line handing out the wristbands if anyone had hard tickets. I thought this was very accommodating and greatly appreciated. Cut in security check line with kotsy and made it in in 15 minutes time.
Disappointed with the soccer viewing area as previously mentioned. Could barely see the screens on my tippy toes and even then the glare was so bad. I just followed it on my Euro iPhone app instead. What a ing blowout that was!!
Sunday Music
First time seeing Art Department, and, dare I actually say they were decent? *paging Cribby* that was good beach grooving music. I’m talking about between 4:30-5:30pm. Their last half hour was boring and I was getting really impatient as they extended their set because they were late. I’m sorry, but, if you have a 1.5hr set then you make it on time! You’re ing locals too!! (I’m not sure why they were late, just find it kind of selfish). Then C&C came on and was pretty disappointed with their set to say the least. Blah! I mean come on, Spain JUST won their third straight major soccer title! Maybe I’ve seen them too many times but I thought Mark Knight dropped a better set then they did. Good energy, mixture of house and techno, not too cheesy. Nice job. Fanciulli came on and took over the beach stage. What a ing riot he brought with him!! Tied for best set of the night for me as I’m not sure who would take the edge between him and Dubfire after his warm up. He dropped some seriously dark, chugging/rolling tech and was a perfect way to end out the festival. There are definitely some awesome videos of him floating around! Why did Carlo only play like 20 min? He just...got up and left?
Overall, I had an amazing time and although there are a few kinks to be worked out, for a first time festival I have to say this was a PHENOMENAL SUCCESS and cannot wait for next year.
I’ll review the stages, sound and visuals in a bit. I’m hungry... |

They actually had a 2.5 hour set so they lost at least a half hour of their set by being late. I also don't get get what happened with Carlo's set. I know the set times were backed up bc of AD but why did he get on when all the other djs got their full set times including Dub getting a full 2 hours? It's not like the park had to close and they had to screw someone over because the main stage was running 1 full hour after the echo beach stage finally shut down a half hour late. Originally I thought the event ended at midnight because of noise bylaws but that clearly isn't the case. Was it just planned to end that early so clubs can make their money off after parties? It makes sense but I for one would rather party later at the festival instead of heading back indoors to a club to party |

Haha. They played a memorable 45 minutes or so. Even Sarah liked it! I'm going to hold her to it. :p |

That'd be a dream line up for me. Add Guy J to open the stage, and I could die a happy man.
But being realistic, that type of music doesn't have a big following in Canada.
Stereo was half empty when Guy J played there in March, same goes for Warren, and last time he'd played in Montreal was something like 5 years ago. Even Circus wasn't packed for Hernan a couple of weeks ago..
I can't see how Hernan, Warren and Sasha could top a tent hosting Dubfire, Hawtin, and Carlo Lio. |

I was at the Hernan party few weeks ago and that place was rocking!! It was very busy too. Montreal crowd loves the Hernan sound.;) |

the LED lights in front of the booth are way higher than the table, what was the reason for that? it was somewhat difficult to see the djs play, you could only see the head, if that. just wondering.. |

| not a fan of elevated DJ booths in general, but I guess its somewhat expected in a festival environment. |
