What happened in the line up? I heard it took some people hours to get in.
So many things wrong with this festival.
One atm. The sign for the other atm led you to a corner with nothing in it. I gave up waiting in the line for the atm. all it meant was less music and more over priced beer.
And $10 tall boys? Wtf!!

| so happy i wasnt with rogers lol brought 60$ and i wasted it all on beers pretty fast, picked up some ones unopened water in the middle of the beach (sorry if it was yours) and had that for the rest of the night LOL... bunch of kids thought gerber was a-trak and were waiting at echo beach for afrojack until we told them theyre at the wrong stage. |

| I had a great time on the 1st day. I brought money with me cause i knew getting money there would be hassle. Plan ahead next time. |

| I wonder what ticket prices would have been without a sponsor (Rogers)...had a feeling it would be a disaster getting in. One friend took 3 hrs.. that is absolute madness |

might be just me but bottle service kinda goes against the spirit of a music festival. Leave the bottle service at clubs |

We agree - the entry sucked for everyone between about 4pm-630pm. Basically EVERYONE showed up at the exact same time! By 7pm it was fixed and running smoothly but there were definitely some painful hours in there. We apologise for the wait some people had and have made major improvements to ensure its much smoother today. I have been out there personally and over 8000 people were in without a hitch by 5pm. Rest of the day should be just as smooth.
Please keep in mind that it was the first time with RFID's in use in Toronto and the first EDM event at the venue. A little growing pain but we learn quick... The show itself it absolutely amazing - the stages, the people, the music... absolutely going off! Appreciate everyone's support.

Good to see many old friends, bad to see all the under age
CRACKERS falling left right and center.
Would I go again? probably if I get to shoot it

still cleaning the sand off my shoes..lol

whatever issues you faced day 1 definitely seemed to be adjusted for for day 2. Getting in was a breeze and once inside it was all sorts of fun. Beautiful sound on the echo beach stage. |

Congratulations to Ryan, the rest of the Electronic Nation team, and all those involved for throwing what was the best party I've been to in Canada!
Two days of magic. This is going to be a beast of a review, and I anticipate most people thinking "tl;dr."
I arrived Saturday at 2pm before all my friends and explored the grounds. I think you guys made excellent use of the space. I danced a bit at the bass stage to Rick Toxic, and wow was it loud! I was near the back by the futbal zone and I felt it essential to have my ear plugs in. I then headed over to the Dreams stage to hear BT, for which I could only stomach five minutes of his performance. I've been a BT fan for a while, but I couldn't stand the bleepy electro he was playing. I then went to the Canada Stage, which had all of maybe 40 people paying attention to it to hear Never Not House play part of a really fun set.
Partway through Never Not House's performance, I ventured over to Echo Beach, which became home base for many of my friends and I. Coming into the weekend, I was unfamiliar with Hed Kandi. Their mainstream, kind of poppy sound isn't my regular fare, but I thought Sarah Louise did a great job of making people dance, and her energy coupled with that smile on her face was infectious. I was enjoying the vibe, my friends, the sand, and the sun. And that remix of Cirez D's "On/Off" was ing incredible!! I didn't think that track could get any better, but my body was gyrating like never before.
Next up was Pettigrew & Lane, another duo I had never heard of. Their set was when I really felt the party start grooving. Their brand of music was so rolling, danceable, and fun. Guy Gerber--the first act I was excited to see--then came on and did not disappoint. Really, what I can say about P&L, Guy Gerber, and Boris is that they were all awesome. And then came a dream three hours for me: Steve Lawler followed by Richie Hawtin. Holy , I was loving what Lawler brought. That super housey track he played as either his last or second to last track was particularly awesome (I'm not much for IDing). Basically, a perfect set, in my opinion. And then, the man himself, Richie Hawtin. By that time, I was so entranced by the music and high from dancing (seriously, my endorphins were flooding my brain--I didn't have a single drink or touch any drugs, but I felt so high. Probably because I expended more energy than I would have during an Iron Man competition) that Richie's freestyle raw techno was exactly what I wanted to hear. That man is a technical wizard, and he had my body moving beyond any voluntary control. His techno put me in a trance. I can understand how some people might not like, understand, or appreciate what Richie does--especially, anyone who was there hoping to see Afrojack--but man, if you like techno, I just don't think it gets any better. We left at 11:45. I wanted to stay the last 15 minutes, but my body wouldn't let me. 9+ consecutive hours of intense dancing, and I needed to go to sleep. I think I brought half the sand from the beach home with me in my shoes. I stretched, foam rolled, and mobilized for half an hour before eating a feast and passing out, and I still woke feeling incredibly sore.
Quick mention about the water fill-up station: much appreciated! I counted filling my one litre bottle up 8 times (shared some of it) before the sun went down. It blows my mind to think that I was appropriately hydrated only with ~6 liters of H2O, and yet there were so many people boozing and doing drugs all day out in the sun, and consuming minimal amounts of water. I wonder how many people suffered from heat stroke on Saturday. I definitely saw a few people experiencing extreme (and aesthetically hilarious) heat and drug ailments. Anyone else see the guy who was falling on to the railing of the Beach's light and sound tent? His mouth was locked open wide as though he had just seen God. I couldn't stop laughing, but I hope he's recovered by now. Anyways . . .
Sunday, I had a prior commitment for the early part of the day, so I showed up around 6:30pm. It seemed like a lot of people were coming post-Euro Cup final, so the line was big, but I'm happy to report it only took me about 10-15 minutes to get in. I quickly stopped by the Dreams Stage to meet a friend and I stayed to watch Afrojack for 10 minutes. Not my cup of tea, but I was able to jump up and down and enjoy what he was playing. He certainly has a lot of fans, and the energy felt more like a Rage Against The Machine concert than a rave or EDM party.
Following my quick visit to the Dreams Stage, I went back to my home base. I was disappointed to have missed Art Department and most of Chus & Ceballos' sets, but Mark Knight had me busting moves from the moment he pressed play, which made me completely forget that I had missed anything. His set had so much swagger, and I felt like my dance moves were borderline hip hop. Much to my liking, he ended with one of my all-time favourite tracks, Funkagenda and Mark Knight's "The Man With the Red Face." I just wish he had played the full ten minutes as opposed to the three minute sample he supplied. But, I guess he must have been strapped for time.
Next up was Nic Fanciulli, who I had never seen before. He was great! His music had me rocking and rolling. Perfect post Mark Knight set and an awesome lead in to Dubfire and Lio. Sci + Tec was just astounding. Last time I saw Dubfire didn't do much for me, but this time around was incredible. A combination of the music, friends, and the girl I was dancing with had me mean-mugging with breaks of laughter. I love when my face feels angry because the music is just so painfully good: it's like my soul is smiling, but my face displays pure disgust. An awesome set. It was tied with Hawtin and Lawler's respective sets for my favourite of the festival: they were all so great with each DJ displaying his own unique style that I can't say any one was better than another.
We went with some newfound friends to watch a bit of Kaskade once the Echo Beach stage had finished. Man, the music at the Dreams Stage just did not do it for me. It was so unmelodic and glitchy. No matter who was playing, it felt like the DJ had no comprehension of flow. The track selections and the "mixing" just always felt so disconnected, making it quite difficult for me to dance to. I guess that's why most of the fans were jumping instead. I saw Kaskade years ago and thought he was great at that time, but last night was not my cup of tea, so we left after about 10 minutes. I'm not suggesting the guys playing the Dreams Stage are bad DJs, but they're just not my bag. The thousands upon thousands of jacked up, mostly young and neon-clad fans suggests the DJs are doing something right.
Overall, I give this party a 9/10. Outside on a beautiful weekend, friends, dancing on the beach to some groovy ass DJs, gorgeous girls galore, a great, fun-loving crowd, and music for nearly every EDM fan. I would give Digital Dreams a perfect score, but the vendors weren't up to my standards. Just give me some real meat and vegetables please. Nonetheless, I'm already excited for DD 2013. But first, Eric Prydz at IDentity Festival! |

Great weekend for Toronto! the city was on fire at every corner.
For a first time festival, Digital Dreams really hit the mark. In comparison to Minitek in NYC....this is day and night.
I feel bad for Rogers customers for getting ed at the entrance. They are supposed to provide an easy service and stuff....and failed hard at it.
For other people, the entry was a breaze. FAST security checks and in you are.
Day 1 for me.....well I dont remember much so Ill just say it was awesome :)
Day 2, I arrived at the tail end of Art Department. They were quite good and I wish I was there for the entire set. The closing track was amazing...video to follow.
Chus & Ceballos were fun. I feel Pablo was running the show on this one. I love the dude's energy, always a smile on, loving life. Their set definitely lacked drums (there was some...but not enough). The set had some lulls...but overall great.
Mark Knight....worst set of the weekend for me. Many party tunes...but just lacked flow.
Nic Fanciulli...FINALLY i get to see the guy. Love his worldwide sounds podcast...but from what I hear, his past sets in Toronto have been meh at best. Well not this time. He definitely was on.
SCI-Tec (well Dubfire w/ 20 mins of Lio). OMG what a set by dubfire. Bangers left and right and some really wicked tunes in there. The lighting/LED panels were awesome. They definitely stuck to the color red !! While there were rumours he was playing longer...it didnt really happen (an extra 30mins only). I was kind of happy that it didnt because i was spent. Feet were massacred from dancing in the sand.
Note: if someone left the festival with an 'Asic' running shoe that is not theirs...PM me ;) Someone took it from our pile by accident on the Saturday night... lol |
