| it was a little buzzkill for me because all i see is the person up there with his head and load of visuals and lights (that's cool), and gogodancer girls (cool too) but for me the most important factor was not visible, i would like to see what the person is doing up there.. |

the most important factor is the music. why do you need to see the djs while they're playing? no one complained when they dj booth at guv was a bird's nest in the sky and you couldn't see anything. forget the djs and dance with your friends like you're supposed to :p
edit: it was pretty funny going through jill's up close dj shots and almost all of them have half their face cut off haha |

That's why I gave up videoing. I was way too frustrated with the fact that you could just see their heads. I guess I'm too spoiled with being beside the DJ's in clubs, that this event though me for a loop. Even though I had permission and I even had a "pit pass" it didn't matter. Everyone with cellphones got the same shots as I would have gotten.
This was the first time I've ever been to an outdoor event and man was I so ill prepared for it. I even forgot to bring a hat and ended up boarderlining heat stroke and left just after six on Saturday as I wasn't feeling that great. Tunes were good though. I did manage to catch Jelo's morning set and also managed to get a good chunk on video. I wished I caught his evening set. His beats have so much "bounce" to it... you can't keep still no matter what.
One thing I did notice was the bass stage. Holy did it have one of the loudest sounds. Straight away in the beginning of everything, I had to wear earplugs just to stay around long enough to record some of some chicks set. Was pretty good too.
I definitely learned from this for the next outdoor event! |

| what a fail that dnb stage was though, felt bad for the dj's/mc's 20 ppl dancing at a stage that big. That music is so dead here. |

Your camcorder is in HD and the sound would've surely been a lot better than cell phone vids. It's a shame they didn't give you full access like some photographers/videographers. Nobody touches your videos in Toronto as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure it's all up to who you know instead of quality, though.

ya seriously. what is with this "I couldn't see the dj" . I thought the stage was really cool - even with the DJ head poking up over the LED wall - no complaints from me.
It's all about the music.... ;)

guy j was suppose to be in nyc a few months ago but had to cancel, but will be back later in the month for the make-up date
i seen marco bailey back in april, what a huge disapointment for the most part...he had a good maybe 30-45 min of some what quality tech
other than that i dunno it was just fluff
but next year some prog guys like guy j,hernan,digweed,sasha
would be stellar for the festival line-up |

About the access... you're absolutely right. I had one of those glitter red access bands that's one step down from backstage access. I knew a few who didn't even have that and were still getting artist access. It was pretty much due to the fact they "knew" someone. Some of the others whom had the same access as me weren't too thrilled by the lack of access either.
I thought it was funny, in a way, that Joe Manzone was telling me he wasn't allowed behind stage either. I wonder if he ever got that fixed?
Ya, I agree about the fact I should have stayed longer, but I did screw the pooch by getting overexposed to the sun. I really did have to go as I was not feeling that great. I seen your videos and you got some good shots (better than one would expect considering the distance and the crowds) of what went on after I left. Man it was mayhem... but in a good way. Next year I'll know better. |
