This is how we pay richie's 20k fee :P

I'm no party promoter, and I'm sure there was desire to keep the event affordable for the university and college kids, but I would have gladly paid double the price for half the crowd. I wonder how many others would agree?

I wish clubs would cap their events at 3/4 capacity and charge higher prices. Mind you, perhaps not everyone craves as much dance floor space as I do. Plus, I guess if there remained demand for tickets and room enough for promoters to squeeze out extra dollars, we might just end up with higher priced sardine cans.

By the way, Code, I notice in your signature a "Berghain Night" slated for Dec. 1 at Footwork. What does this mean? That you'll have a face-tatted bouncer randomly denying entry to 75% of the people in line haha? Berghain seems like a hard place to mimic without constructing a new building.

After all these years, one thing I've learned is that no matter how much you increase the price of an event, if it's a popular act, people will find the money and find a way in

I had a great time, and would have a hard time seeing why someone would call it a flop.

Initially I was worried about hassles at the door with tickets (I've had bad experiences with advanced tickets the past while...), but got in fast and smooth to a packed club.

Place was packed, but also pretty friendly / etc and could move around - once I found a spot to call my own, didn't have too much of the 'endless trains of people pushing past me' that you can get at other clubs when that crowded.

Really enjoyed Carl Craigs set, Loco Dice took me awhile to get into - kinda bugged me a little bit at the start but won me over in the later part of his set.

Richies Set was great - I haven't listened to many of his sets recently , and really liked what I was hearing. He also gets such a great crowd response, the energy/vibe was great and it's hard not to get caught up in it.

Really wish I had snuck off to get my coat before his set had ended, place was still packed to the when it ended and the coat check line was a bit of a show (but still got my stuff surprisingly fast considering).

All around I had a great night, and even with it being such a sardine can - didn't really find it that detrimental to my enjoyment. Crowd wasn't too pushy, and could still carve out a little spot to dance.

I totally agree. I really don't understand the promoters at all ! Why make the majority of the people very unhappy of the night because of selling way too many tickets for a place of that size??

what a mistake!!! I would have totally paid double the price for my ticket to have a much more enjoyable night. I spoke to at least a dozen friends there and they all shared the same point of view... impossible to enjoy the night because of overcrowding!

Also I didn't find the crowd that great, a lot of pushy people. If they would have sold way less tickets, higher the prices of the tickets to compensate, and put the same set of speakers at the back (why just at the front ???? really weird )... Then it would have been easily one of the best party of the year in Toronto in my opinion.

You're preaching the choir here. This is probably one of my biggest pet peeves. It shows a complete lack of caring on the promoter/manager/owner's behalf for paying customer's comfort. Charging double for half the crowd is a bit of a stretch but charging a little bit more to have the place at 3/4 capacity is MORE than reasonable. Hell, even having the place AT capacity would be nice since nights like this are clearly OVER capacity! Makes me wish the police did more walk throughs of clubs to check up on matters like this and keep owners/promoters in line. Guv is one of the worst offenders for over capacity (long weekends used to be a nightmare). FW used to be terrible for this when they have massive djs come through but changed their ways when people constantly complained... props to them for that. IS IT REALLY SO MUCH TO ASK TO HAVE SOME ING ROOM TO DANCE OR HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF PERSONAL SPACE?? I wasn't even considering going to this because of money but I'm really glad I didn't because of the capacity issue alone. I wouldn't want to see my favourite dj in the world in conditions like that.

I dont like getting into these types of debates buts lets set the record straight...becausae some people just dont knnow what going on
behind the scenes.

People always blame the promoters...but guess what you could be wrong...

#1 It was Richie wwho wanted to play a new Venue he hadnt played and
chose the Hoxton for it's great stage setup.

I personally wnated to do this at Moskito or The Opera House
as I wanted the room for the show.

#2 It was Richie's Management who set our Ticket price to make it
affordable for the Colledge Kids to come. Hence its a ing Colledge tour if you didnt know...by him making it a certain price
we had to make that work for the high budget.

#3 We had a complete stack of Rear subs and Speakers which Richies soundtech from Germany made us remouve because he wanted the room in stereo eventough we rented all the gear to make it sound better.

There are even more factors that I can speak about but trust me guys
I like going to well organized events and we make every effort to make event as comfortable as possible to attend.

These are the facts and what we had tp work with and I think we did a stellar job at the Hoxton...

End

Those circumstances sound like a load of (not bs). Shame on Richie and/or his management for setting you guys up to fail like that. You'd think he could see from the stage that the people are barely dancing because they can hardly move. I'm sure this isn't the only stop on his tour that was like this.

Dior Homme
Well I'm happy it went well. I knew it was going to be rammed and the sound would still be good enough for the party. Too bad the over crowding situation but with that size of a venue (even if it was at Moskito or Opera house) the sardine situation would still be the same. CODE even said it that if you don't have a ticket don't show up. It would have been the same idea.

I can see how the management team would suck each dollar and resource out of each venue and promoters.

I still would love to see Richie at a medium sized venue for 5hrs. 3-4hrs for Richie isn't enough.

You'd think if Richie was so concerned about college kids affording tickets, he'd drop his rate a bit (or is that a reduced charge? lol)
