Hey man, Im just gonna tell you my story, you decided what to do with it.
Bought my first Ipod Touch 32GB about a year ago.
Never used apple before, never used iTunes.
I heard about iTunes but was hating on it cause its new and unknown i guess.
After I got familiar with iTunes, I dont use anything else to organize, rate and create playlists with my music.
I love the sync feature, its awesome! you rate your music on ipod or pc it doesnt matter, is always consistent.
I dj so I find my setup is pretty damn good.
The only ABSOLUTELY STUPID thing with ipods is that you CANNT add 'currently playing songs' to playlist. you would have to find the song in the catalog and add it from there. Its absolutely ing retarded that apple still didnt do anything about such an easy to implement and use full feature.
Overall im very happy with my iPod. If you do decide to get it, get the 64gb version. Im already running out of space with my 32gb. |

Have you actually done any googling? I just did and it took me like 5 seconds to find this thing with 120gb, for example. I think Zune is one of the best for mp3 players as well.

Zunes are discontinued by Microsoft. You could buy one now, but I have no idea what support would be like down the road. |

I meant to buying an iPod. The installation of some 3rd party software over the official program is not what I had in mind. Although this kind of bull is exactly why I ing hate iTunes |
These alternatives I mentioned allow you to extract whatever you want from your iPod (e.g. SharePot).
Now, as for directly dragging and dropping files onto your iPod using the good old file manager, I don't think I've ever attempted to do that.
Trust me, Jack, it sounds a lot worse than it actually is. I used to hate iTunes (and the idea of getting an iPod, for that matter), but after a couple of days using iTunes, it's much better than whatever you're used to. And in case iTunes starts overprotecting your files, even Winamp can extract them back, as I recall it.

I just want to drag and drop my files. What's the ing problem, Apple? |
That's because iPods are much better organised than your average mp3 player. It's hard to understand it before you own one, but that thing is perfect for control freaks (and you come across as a bit of one :p). |

Don't. Just don't. That's the reason why I made the switch.
Edit: I love Sony as a whole... until, that is, I bought their mp3 players. The old versions had a program similar to iTunes, except it sucked no matter how much I use it. And their latest models didn't last a single month with me. They'd break down for no reason, and after I had them fixed/replaced/refurbished/redesigned/rebuild/reassembled loads of times, I gave up.
Although it does work exactly the way Jack wants... when it works, that is. |

| It seems like he is a folder guy, like me. I have everything neatly organized in folders. I have this neat labyrynth architecture of genres and labels that helps me find . I don't need a ing software to organize things for me. I can do that by myself. And yes, I've used Itunes. |

What was your main problem with iTunes, anyway? As I recall it, you don't have to have an extra iTunes library, and the newer versions will simply memorise the path to your files and work from there.
(except for podcasts and such, which they have to download somewhere) |

| As I've said, I need folders. Having my music in a really long list (or different playlists) just depresses me. And yes I know Itunes has a search function and tags but it's not the same. |

My 2 cents on organized folders.
I thought ill try out the itunes feature which organizes everything in folders.
Now when I go to browse music folder in Virtual DJ all I see is train of folders.
This is sucks, I prefer to see full List of songs here with they key and bpm.
So yeah from now on Im gonna stop using folders and stick to playlists instead. |

Some of the Yale courses seem to be good, so far.
As far as specifics, anything to do with writing, philosophy and humanities in general.
I'd rather you recommend some good ones than sift through what seems like an endless amount of them.
:)
Also, any good podcasts similar to the TEDTalks one would be awesome. |

I am a folder guy, but in no way an organised or neat person. I can never remember where any of my music is, I often have to run a search to find something. Project files are even worse. For example, I've got a bunch of files entitled "PROG, PROG 2, PROG 3, prog2011, prog outro" and I've no idea what any of them actually contain or where the tracklists are. I use folders because I routinely edit or analyse my files with a bunch of software, and they have nothing to do with iTunes.
Sony's players don't go above 16gb for some idiot reason, and Microsoft have given up making their players. Creative do one MP3 player at 64gb, which is still not enough.
I suppose if I want to have a high capacity MP3 player I will simply have to bite the bullet and get an iPod, and use one of the alternative manager programs. I find it extremely annoying that Apple have no competition in this part of the market, though. They now have free reign to make their as intrusive and restrictive as they want. |

Did you even read my previous post? Like, if you've did any googling you'd see there's stuff out there, like the Zune I linked. Apparently they're being discontinued but it's not like you need ongoing support with a basic mp3 player. |
