And, after reading Euforix' post and purchasing a regular iPod with ten years worth of music in it, System-J was never heard from again - and technical support never became a problem :p

not entirely sure it's what you're after, but if you get an ipod classic and not the touch or nano, you can make it work as an external harddrive with no hassle at all. this will allow you to drag and drop any data to it. I did this with my first 8gig one back in 03, and it was able to play all the music I put on there. I know you can make it work as an ext. hd now, I'm just not 100% on how the ipod handles the transferred data - if you're able to play it. can't relly see why it wouldn't though, unless apple has "patched" it since then.

How do you do this?

I've heard this is only possible on the older Ipods

Jack keep us posted if you get that Cowon. I'm quite interested in this player myself. Your attitude towards MP3 players is pretty much identical to mine.

I don't know, to be honest. None of the options look ideal. Cowon give me drag 'n drop, but also questionable reliability. iPods demand the use of some program of other (unless Redd comes good with an explanation about how to turn one into an external HD) but there's no need to ship them off to Korea if they go wrong.

Oh, there's ONE thing you should know about iPods: If they break down after the warranty period expires, you can't turn to Apple for help.

I own a 6th generation iPod Nano, and the play button got stuck one day. I went to an Apple store, and they said I could only have it replaced. So I did. Fast forward one more year, it happened again (it's a fairly common problem, it seems). I went to the local Apple store, and they said they couldn't do anything about it, so I had to go to a flea market and had it repaired for 5 pounds by a Cantonese kid (works perfectly, by the way).

It's probably made in China so it makes sense only a Chinese kid could fix it.

ironically, through iTunes

the description of this vid also says you can play your music transferred in this way. it is from 09' though.

Itunes isn't so bad if you set it to not move your files and sync manually. The files you add don't get added to your library. You aren't going to notice the difference between flac and mp3 unless you are listening to something acoustic with an overall low rms level.

I do feel your pain tho. Perhaps an android device exists that is kinda like a small tablet ?

I bought the ipad mini as an mp3 player because i lost 3 ipod touches in the span of 2 years. Basically it is big enough that i have a hard time losing it.

He opened it up in front of me once. I feel tempted to repair it myself now :p

iPods really are an overrated joke; ty tin can sound quality, piss poor battery life, forced use of iTunes, limited format support for music and movies, locked internal library, no proper equalizer, etc.

There's only one MP3 player worth getting on the market and I've already mentioned it, the Cowon J3, so I'll expand on what its got going for it;
