They do exist and are pretty standard these days. The popular clause stipulates stuff like, "you can't play an event within the tristate area for the next 4 months with 10,000 or more attendants", in so many words.

Aggressive contracts like these are the way Insomniac has spread like wildfire around most of the U.S.. They built a reputation large enough to go into different cities and book the biggest artists to deals that would handicap local promoters from being able to book them, for better or worse..

Thank you for the validation. Was just fuzzy to me. Especially for a company that calls the ticket holders the most important part and the "headliners".

But a good point to debate putting the extreme influence of the dollar aside, does it limit artists exposure or reversely, increase it? Yes it's restricting but opens slots for others...

Based on the phase 1 line up, it seems both of those stages will be going to waste...

Yeah, silver lining...

You'd think they would release some of the bigger names for something like Sunday School to keep fans of the other genres interested and prevent secondary sale of tickets

just got an email

"Dear Electric Zoo Festival Customer,

Electric Zoo has established an "18 and older" policy for all festival attendees, effective immediately. We have listened to fans' requests for this change, and have made the decision to follow the industry standard for electronic dance music festivals.

We apologize for the disappointment we know this change in policy brings to our younger fans. Full refunds will be issued to anyone who has already purchased a ticket who will not be 18 in time for Electric Zoo 2013. To request a refund, please fill out the form at http://frontgatetickets.wufoo.com/f...refund-request/

Regards,
Front Gate Tickets"

Agree, it's all marketing and PR.

Good question about the exposure. There's no way to really know. I think it increases exposure just because of the sheer sizes of these events/festivals. The scene has shifted from danceclub to festivals, so it's not really "VITAL" to get bookings at all the country's "megaclubs" anymore. All the media outlets, and all the odds and ends fans that come out of the woodwork go to the festivals. You don't have Huffington Post or NY Times covering Pacha's weekly lineup now do you? So a person like Armin would more eagerly take a Madison Square Garden (perfect example) or Electric Zoo booking at the expense of 3-4 more potential smaller bookings in New York that year.

After seeing these headliners, I'll be perfectly happy going to one or two afterparties that weekend and then choosing the best under-card day to go for one of 'em. I don't think I'll be missing out at all.

the mainstage crowd will be extra brite this year
