Seattle seems like a beautiful place, but I hate overcast (one of the reasons I left Atlanta), so it's just not for me.
That's the problem with city ranking polls. It all depends on what you're looking for in a city. For me, I moved to LA 3 years ago and absolutely love it here. Plenty of problems, sure, but the benefits outweigh those massively (for me).
Nou, were you born and raised in the NW? Only asking because it seems somewhat rare for a forward-thinking person to want to remain where they grew up for the remainder of their lives. For whatever reason, it seems that the open-minded tend to want to "get the hell out" whether it's actually the best decision or not. |

Born and raised in the PNW.
I have rarely met a person here who wants to leave, and if they do leave they pine for the time they can return.
*edit*
... and I did want to leave someplace, I was born and raised in Tacoma, I wanted to get out to Seattle (though I really still like Tacoma, I'd probably want to move back there when I am much older). |

As someone born and raised in Seattle who has lived in Atlanta for the past three years (and really wants to move back), I have to say... what the ? :wtf: Atlanta is by no means "overcast". Maybe for a few days in the winter, but that's about it.
Although, I suppose if you're looking for a place like LA where it's about the same kind of weather all year round, then I guess anywhere outside of SoCal would seem painfully overcast. :stongue: |

I love Seattle.
But I'd choose Victoria, British Columbia over it. |

I was specifically talking about winter. It will be overcast with very little sun and cold for days in a row, sometimes over a week. That combined with the short days always drove me crazy. I also hate the almost-freezing-but-not-quite-so-just-really-cold-rain nonsense in the winter. So yeah, if that bothered me, imagine what Seattle would do.. :P
One thing I miss is Georgia autumns, though. Absolutely beautiful that time of year.
In any case, it was far from the main reason I left Atlanta... but LA weather does fit me pretty well (I like heat and sunshine... without the high humidity).
Amusingly enough, most of the people I know who grew up in SoCal absolutely LOVE overcast because they almost never get it. I suppose the grass is always greener on the other side. :P |

| Both Austin and Portland suffer from the 'hype phenomenon'...Louisville is still a bit undiscovered. |

Never been to either, but based on what I hear from people who have, Portland is cool but overrated, whereas Austin is actually as cool as everyone says (but hot as balls in the summer).
I need to visit both. |

Yeah, you wouldn't like it so much, then. :p I can't stand the weather here, haha. Call me crazy, but I love overcast and a bit of a drizzle. Not to mention that the summers in the PNW are so worth putting up with the winter weather.

Humidity can eat a bag of dicks. I'm dreadful of the coming summer. It's absurd that you can take fifteen seconds to walk from your house to your car and back, and by the time you're back inside you have to wash your clothes and take a shower. the summers here.

Portland's a great city with wonderful people, but it is a bit overhyped. I prefer to think of it as a much more "relaxed/laidback" version of Seattle.

Anywhere in Cascadia is a wise choice. |

Denver is by FAR the greatest US city. I love living here. Not only is it gorgeous but the people are the most amiable people I've ever met.
Colorado FTW! :D |
