I don't see the relevance in posting that article.

It's a recent event that illustrates that just because you give weapons to cops doesn't mean your safety is ensured. That's the momentum Spacey's point is hamming toward; that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, jeah? jeah?
The people of the UK are by and large better served by their firearms policies than the US is theirs.

True dat!
I'm almost as disgusted at the amount of level 99 bigotry this is prompting across England, as by the actual atrocity itself.

That's discounting the possibility that if the officer in question was unarmed that the suspect wouldn't have killed the girl as well as the officer. It also ignores the fact that the suspect in the OP didn't have a gun. Had he had a gun, a bunch of officers waiting around for the gun officers could have led to more deaths.
I don't think that makes any correlation at all between police having guns and the public's safety.

Anything possible, I suppose. But were our laws even slightly more sane, the possibility of it being an armed break-in in the first place would have been drastically reduced.
Then there's the friendly fire that almost killed the officer during the Tsarnaev Brothers pursuit:
Point is, no matter the level of training and authority, humans are still much better to themselves and others without ready access to guns at all times. Especially in the US where the impetus to save the day rides shotgun, so to speak.

Not sure it has been confirmed yet, but witnesses are saying that one of the men did indeed have a gun.

[Sort of on topic] This is one of the primary reasons why I am all for increasing drones.
[On topic] Crazy people are crazy. Damn shame :(

i remember studying this at school in a policing and governance unit. from memory i believe that UK coppers are happy with not being armed with pistols? i might be remembering that incorrectly however.
i fully support arming all officers but im not gonna tell the UK police force that i know better than they do.
