Diagnosis :
The attention whore can be observed in its natural habitat (any message board). The following is a non-exhaustive list of distinguishing characteristics that should allow you to identify an attention whore more easily.
** Posts pictures of themselves incessantly. Everyone knows what they look like but just in case anyone forgot from the previous ten pages of a picture thread, here's a billion more to jog your memory and encourage further commentary. If female these pictures tend to be racy and done not at all for attention but because they were "drunk" or "bored".
** Attention whores tend not to congregate in packs because attention is far too precious a commodity to have diverted to anyone else. As such it is usually the case that attention whores are at their most vicious towards other attention whores should the spotlight shift focus. It is best for the observer to stay as removed from the conflict as possible, because reasoning with an attention whore is impossible when they are fighting for something so important.
** If male, says things that they would never have the backbone to say to someone's face and often spouts controversial and inflammatory views simply for the sake of inciting a reaction from others and not because they genuinely have a clue about the issues they talk of. Pays much lip service to not caring about the forum or anyone's opinion yet spends an inordinate amount of time there. In this case the attention whore is so desperate for attention that even negative attention is an upgrade from the status quo.
** Nonspecific to gender, generally turns any difficulty that could have otherwise been avoided with the slightest bit of forethought into a "woe-is-me" dramatic hand-to-forehead thread begging the gods and stars and Jebus to have mercy upon their poor downtrodden soul. Should it be suggested that what they may be going through is par for the course and a natural part of life, they typically react violently, because there is no way that they could be like anyone else and therefore not be special. After all "Things are different for them" and we, the masses, "just don't understand". And because things are so very different for them, life owes them something and therefore they have the right to take it out on everyone.
Treatment :
3 servings actual self esteem
2 years experience and maturity
10 cc's ignore them until they get a clue
