Have you been out recently? Everything is packed. Demand exceeds the supply of club space right now. Which makes sense - it's harder than ever to open & operate clubs in Toronto, while the EDM thing is still in full swing. |
It's harder because the city won't allow new venues to open. Which means only the existing venues can only stay open, rebrand or close.
I can't remember the last 'new' club that opened. Then again I don't go out on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday just to go to a club. Usually it's for a special event or DJ. But the majority of venues open now were existing ones from before.
Richmond used to be filled with clubs. Not so much any more. There are less clubs in Toronto than 2-3 years ago and that's not a long time. It's easier to maintain smaller clubs/renovate than having a huge one and gamble. |

The point being that if they're able to, there's a lot of pent-up demand for more mega clubs. |

Yes, I understand that. However, WILL it happen? |

hmm that's interesting...but a super club like Guv, or like Space Ibiza you really need your own dedicated building... It'll never happen here in the downtown core... |

| quote: | In 2009, a bylaw banned new restaurants, bars and effectively, nightclubs more than 2,421 square feet from opening on Ossington Avenue in between Queen and Dundas Streets.
Then in 2013, the Toronto and East York Community Council unanimously passed another law slashing the number of bars and restaurants to 25 per cent of businesses in four sections of Queen St. W. between Roncesvalles Ave. and Dufferin St. in Parkdale.
The 60 clubs that some had calculated were sprinkled along Queen St. W. and King St. W. rapidly shrank to a dozen or two and former city councillor Adam Vaughan pronounced that “it’s no longer the cool thing to go to a night club the size of a Wal-Mart.” |
Well well well. Talk about a dismantling of the cities nightlife.
Unfortunately, I was right. |
