OMFG the memories... while it wasn't the club I popped my club cherry in, I remember being there every god damn weekend.

I wonder what track Mark will close the last night on!

Digweed was part-owner in vagabond.

Sorry to troll :)

I was actually quite sad to hear of Guv's announced closing. ("quite sad"?? first world problems I guess, lol). I had many great nights at the place after being thoroughly impressed upon my first visit (early 2000s). The all access events back in the day were magical and a very unique experience on this side of the world. I guess I was somewhat lucky to mostly see the best that it had to offer, compared to living there and witnessing the slow decay of an iconic club. I did notice some differences with crowd and vibe as the years progressed, which actually forced me to explore the rest of a fantastic scene in Toronto, meeting so many cool peeps along the way. On the flip side, my decreased interest in the big Guv events led to less trips up, which is unfortunate. Still, I will always remember the good times offered up by massive, multi-room experiences with top notch lineups. I will definitely make it up once or twice more to pay my respects. :toocool:

Every WMC he had a big night there and would always go off about that club. Unfortunately Toronto just didn't get the GREAT Digweed sets, just mediocre.

Other places in Toronto probably had experienced better sets like at System or that one time at Arc and Meow.

Actually other than Guv, I don't think Digweed has played any other events or venues. Sad. Yeah he owes all to Toronto.

IIRC he played at Veld last year (or year before?)

I remember some good Digweed sets at the Guv. Maybe not mindblowing, but still some good stuff. Please one more Diggers set at Guv!

Yeah I forgot about that one at Veld. It was actually a really good compared to Calderone and Tenaglia, very enjoyable.

I fully agree, and it should be a classic!

The tune?

This:

rather generic, but I would not be upset if this was the last song to be played... I wonder what songs Mark Oliver has in mind.
im just trying to picture the security trying to force everyone out on the last night lol the younger patrons are not going to go quietly lol the latest generation of patrons really luv guv (yeah that was chessey) lol

Well I'll be damned, it's finally happening.

Can't say much more than what's already been said. We've all had/shared some of the best moments of our lives within the walls of the Guvernment.

It's definitely sad to see Guv finally close it's doors, but it is inevitable and the fact that the rumor mill has been going on for 10+ years, I think everyone is a bit surprised at how long the Guv reign lasted.

It'd be great to see some of the big names swing through Guv for one last hurrah. Can't wait to hear who some of them are.

I'm hoping for all-access with a different genre in each room for the closing events! Or maybe make them theme/year oriented. Going back in time as the events get closer to Jan 31st 2015 party.

That would be awesome if they could get the DJs in on it (doubtful). I would love an old school Ferry night :tongue2

To be honest, A&B are a pretty underground booking compared to the crap Guv have been booking for the past 2 or more years.

Although, like many of you, I have not been to Guv in a few years now. I was forced out by the new crowd, and music. It wasn't by choice. I would honestly still be partying there every Sat. night, if things hadn't "changed". But alas, change was inevitable I suppose :(

I will still miss this place. SO many memories there. I've seen so many big Dj's there. Met people there. Had some of the messiest partying nights/mornings of my life there, lol. I also used to call it my second home. The Guv was actually one of the main reasons I moved to Toronto. I'd heard of it, and being into electronic dance music at the time (which many of my friends weren't), it was a club I was DYING to check it out. Going to Guv, along with System Soundbar, were life changers for me. I was instantly hooked to the scene, and never looked back.

I will def. be going there one last time before it closes. Just waiting for the right party to come along...

GUV LUV 4 LIFE! lol
