"The farewell will begin in the two or three weeks leading up to The Guvernment's close, with a series of closing parties featuring The Guvernment's closest DJs and promoters, and a grand closing weekend at the end of January [2015]."
Notably, waterfront/Queens Quay condo development has reached a frenzied pace over the last few years. With in-progress developments lining the south side of the street, a massive project proposed at the foot of Yonge Street, and the LCBO selling off its downtown headquarters, it's hard to imagine that the nightclub and live venue won't become part of the residential mix once the music's over.
I guess soon some jerks (maybe you!) will be able to say they live in The Guvernment/RPM with varying degrees of irony depending on their chosen lifestyle brand. Toronto will soon be lacking another mid-sized venue, and though this change was inevitable, both clubs will be missed by Toronto music lovers. |

Guv surely played a massive influence in my love for dance music and the whole party scene. I agree with a lot being said on here. Gallery surely needs to open up for the remaining all access events at least and any bookings where they will be bringing the acts people on here are interested in.
I would totally want to see Lawler do a sunrise set for Canada Day. A Deep Dish set in the main room on Canada Day would be epic as well! I would go for a Markus Shulz set especially because he's one who has loved playing the venue and has always said good stuff about it. Another Dubfire family day gig won't happen, that's sad! :mad: I would want to see a Dubfire solo night at guv (not as Deep Dish) as well. Hopefully another Diggers set is not out of the question either. *Fingers crossed*
Then again these are just wishes, knowing their way of business they will want to cash in as much as possible in this last year with even more cheese acts. So we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves. |

With that newb comment appearing on my newsfeed, guess it was time for a history lesson…
Although I wouldn’t be caught dead in Guvernment today, from 1999 to 2005 Guvernment was my home. Every Saturday, without fail, I would be in Charlie’s, The Drink, Skybar, Goldclub Lounge, etc experiencing the local talent or international headliners._
So many of the heavy hitters of the Toronto scene started/grew their name at Guvernment both promotion and DJ wise. I wouldn’t be “OJ” without being a regular at the venue.
In early 2000/2001 The Drink was THE place to be. They used a password that changed weekly at the door. If you didn’t know the password, you couldn’t get in. Dave White played Miami/Paris inspired deep house, vocal, filtered, sexy. The crowd was dressed immaculately with the best looking patrons in the city.
Although I never went to Vinyl, Arc, etc in New York at that time, I remember the Guv crew raving over Mark Oliver’s open to close 9+ sets. Mark took you on a journey, seamlessly meshing trance, progressive, house all in one night. And he did this every week. He was the King of DJs in this city at that time.
In the main room, that Phazon soundsystem had it’s moments of pristine clarity. Whenever we got lost, we would say “meet at the chains”. I met some great people at Guvernment (and a few sketchy ones) but overall my memories of this place are resonating with me today.
Guvernment is a truly world class club. I’m sad to see it go…_

I think the best thing (well, almost a wish) that they would just do a few big event catering to peoples taste, so everyone who wants to make at least one final trip can... Like one night for trance, one for Deep house, Techno, etc....
Wouldn't that be nice? |

yeah i tend to ramble on when im pissed lol
what i meant was lawler is playing ryze next week right, so i think its doubtful he will be booked in this city again (for the summer months, the months we want him here for)... the press realese said they will try and book the biggest djs to play at guv from now until it closes... and Lawler imo is prbly 1 of 3 biggest djs that ink booked at guv... he was so popular and made ink so much money that ink signed him to a quaterly residency (i think in 2009)... they even gave him his own event (the viva canada day partis, a total of 4)...
so im calling bull on ink that they are even trying to book the biggest/popular djs to play at guv....

I believe i seen on facebook today that Steve Angello made a comment about guv closing.... i use to be a big fan of him so thats cool, he had some decent sets between 08-09 in the main room... |

lol i remember telling my friends to meet at the chains. that was the best decor in guv IMO. i also liked when the dj booth was on the second floor and it had the couches by the door. |
