So I went to catch Session Victim on saturday. I missed them a few months ago and decided even if it was -28 degrees C, and I had no one to go with.. I could NOT miss them again.
They were booked at my favorite hole in the wall bar/club, Bleury Vinyl Bar for an open-close 5 hour vinyl-only set. I had bought 2 tickets but couldn't find anyone to accompany me so I went solo, selling my ticket to someone outside.
I got there at 10:30pm, they were on playing funky slow jams. Super sample heavy, dirty swinging high hats galore. The bar was empty, so I got a chance to relax and have a few pints and scope out the room fill up. One of the turntables kept skipping at one point, so one of em put on a really long track while the other changed the cartridge on the turntable.
As the place started filling up, they picked up the tempo accordingly. They were in a great mood, drinking steadily, and were soon dancing behind the decks harder then I was. The crowd was eating it up too.. the sound system at this bar sucks, and the layout is terrible.. but the crowd is ALWAYS well educated and there to dance.. No selfies or texting to be seen. They were definitely feeling the energy. After a good 15 minutes of UK garage, they started playing french house! WUT.. this is the only track I recognized all night, and the crowd LOST it. People cheering, screaming, and dancing like animals all over.
To end the night, I met this nice young lady from Toronto.. we danced like drunk fools from 1-3am, and ended up taking her home. Nice valentines day. Anywho, I highly recommend going to check these guys out, so much fun... then again they play the stuff that I play, but.. rock solid DJs, incredible selectors, and they're just loving it on stage. Got to shake their hand at the end of the night, very humble dudes.

The bored/annoyed look is his resting-techno-face. He always looks like that. I remember one time, he was playing lush oldschool house in the Berghain garden on an august evening, basically a perfect setting. Hahaha I saw about a half hour of Shed at Igloofest, same deal. He looked absolutely miserable. He came on after a Modeselektor DJ set, it was too big room for me.. a little monotonous, maybe the wrong setting. I would have liked what he was playing a whole lot more had it been 5am in a dark club. Modeselektor's set was much more groovy.

Just came back from Jeff Mills & Malmö Symphonic Orchestra. It was excellent. The pace was kind of slow in the beginning, but it played out nicely. Loved how everyone totally lost it when they played "The Bells" and "The Occurrence". It seemed like they respected each other a lot; Mills played the percussion and claps nicely along side the orchestra, which was formidable as well, compared to orchestras I've heard in the past.
Just before the last song, he came up and said that during his young years in Detroit, DJs used to have signature tracks to identify with the crowd and played one called "Wuji Wuji" for us. It felt nice that he shared a bit of his roots with us.
He seemed extremely humble and shy.
On Friday Rødhåd is playing near me. Worth 60$ to go see him? This includes train ticket, entrance expenses etc.

Jeff mills answered in some interview that basically non of his peers are worth seeing and he is not interested in their stuff lol
I like a lot of Detroit but I never really liked Jeff mills
