I wonder where you get all that information about those engineering/math mark breakdown? Cause it's all wrong ! Most of the upper-year courses I'm taking right now have 3 assignments(monthly) each weighing 10-20% of the final mark, with final exam weighing the rest(and note that there are no participation(free) marks)
Anyways, I'm stopping this discussion here.. especially since you pull your information out of your ass... let's get back to the topic. |

LOL, that's a ing joke.
It's a rule at the university in our faculty that assignments cannot be worth more than 10% cumulatively. Typically, the finally exam is worth between 60% and 80%.
Don't complain about essays. I wrote essays in my sleep in high school. You have hours and hours to write your bull essay, our "success hinges on" 3 hours worth of exam time.
As for your friend, why would anyone go into computer science if they can't code? Why would you go into science if you don't have a logical or scientific mind? It's just common sense not to. |

Participation marks are NOT FREE!! To get a 10 out of 10 or even an 8 or 9 of 10, you MUST attend EVERY class and actively participate in EVERY discussion. That means putting your hand up and offering information at least 5 times in one hour-long session. That means you have to have read the material, which in Honours courses can be one 300 or 400 page book for ONE tutorial.
I guarantee that if you compared how much time and effort we devoted to our repsective studies, it would be about the same. Dedicated social science students like myself do not get off any easier than a science student. |

My friend did well in high school in computer science but university is another level (obviously). As for having a scientific mind...I don't think that way. My smarts are literal, oral and written....so does mean I'm not as smart as you? I don't think I'm any more intelligent than a science student, but one thing I do notice. I have more common sense and social skills than my friend and his acquaintances in computer science. |

alrite .. i don't have a beef with you , nor do i want to get involved in ur accademic debate with the others, but here's just a quick word of advice:
regardless who's right or wrong here.. TOTA is made up predominantly i would say about 85% of MEN who are in some computer/engineering/IT related field that are active posters. so i know you're just expressing your own opinions .. but based on those stats i wouldn't be too surprised with the incoming flames ! |

Just when exactly did I say that non-science people aren't as smart? I said if you don't have a scientific mind, don't go into science. I really don't think it's that hard a concept to understand.
As for your social skills... let's not go there.
This was supposed to be a discussion about PvD's cancellation and you're just pumping out hot air, so I will follow suit with Durafei and not waste any more of my time on this. |
