PvD at Viva... (pg. 14)

lol..

I can't believe I wasted a good 5-10 minutes reading this bull at 7 am.

Anyway, the media is to blame for making SARS the imaginary monster it is, and for having PVD's gig cancelled. I just wish a cure can be found, or the disease simply dies off and doesn't spread any further... that way we won't have to witness any more cancellations like this one (and the ridiculous arguments that go with it).

I've wondered that as well. Confirmed, I think it was, but details didn't seem to be concrete.

Both of you, SHUT UP.

I never would have thought that a simple event cancellation could bring out the worst in people.

See, this is why I don't bother to read the papers or watch the news on TV.

If something is important enough to know, it will eventually spread through word of mouth and then I have the chance to look up the facts myself and make an informed decision.

Finally, for the first time yesterday I saw my roommate watching a newscast on TV which was talking about how SARS is not going to eliminate the human race. Unfortunately... too little, too late.

Man, I'm still pissed off that PvD gave into all the hype. The man surely has his own sources of information, he could have looked a little deeper into the issue. And whoever keeps saying that it's airborne, YOU, the only source that's given out THIS info is the Toronto Star, the fact is that ALL currently known cases of SARS can still be traced to the original spread at the hospital.

at least science courses are made up of weekly or monthly assignments. Try having to do two 5,000 or 10,000 word essays that involve primary and secondary sources and scholarly articles for one course that comprise about 60 percent of your mark. The exam is usually 40 or 30, with 10 percent in participation. Having your success hinge or two or three assignments...that's real pressure.

you are too funny man. where do you get this stuff from?

well, i don't know about computer science but in regular science this is no the case at all. try having to put together a 30 page lab report on a lab that just took you the whole day to complete. with primary scientific sources that you have to spend hours and hours trying to find in the basement of the dingy library that explain why the thing that happened in your lab happened. and this being worth 20 percent of your mark. doing this for three other lab courses that you happen to have and repeating this every week. i wish my success hinged on two or three assignments but no my success hinged on fifty thousand assignments that i did for 4 years straight.

but enough about with my lamenting about school work. PVD is not coming here but at least I am going to Montreal!!

This is completely false. Ferry did not cancel because he fell ill to food poisoning he cancelled because the promoters ed up.
That's what I was told by Ferry's management.
For further proof, and to see who it was that ed up that event, read TranceGeek's post in this ancient thread........suprising? I think not.

hours and hours in the dingy library eh? Until you're an historian, you won't know the meaning of spending time in a "dingy" library. For every essay, I am required to use primary resources. The best primary resources are found in the archives. Just on Friday, I was in the archives for over 8 hours researching for my last essay....and that was just for a primary resource. I'm not counting the three previous trips before the archives where I searched for secondary sources which totalled about 4 hours each. That's like 20 hours just FINDING sources...let alone reading through them and then writing an essay, which can take days to produce something that is pure quality.

And that's just ONE essay. So put a sock in it already. All university students have it tough...a dedicated history student no less than a science student.
