STOP SUPPORTING Vocal Trance !!! (pg. 3)

The thing with vocal trance is that MOST of the singers used are and obviously untrained in any way that is needed to make them decent. Also, most of them sing in the same generic cheesy way. There are a few exceptions of course, like Jan Johnston, Nicola whatever, Sarah McLaughlan, Andain etc.
But even Jan Johnston is not that great of a singer. I mean, she can't sing live at all. Listen to Tiesto DD 2002, the whole live act is completely out of tune. I do like her voice in recorded tracks of course, but that performance was pretty mediocre.
Lately I've been only digging vocal tracks that have been touched by Gabriel & Dresden. There's no contest that the best vocal tracks of this year so far are Beautiful Things and As the Rush Comes By. :D |

Vocal Trance is almost everytime somthing like pop...
Because they mean e its not a real lyrics its just bull - take a look at ligaya vocal mix or 5th dimension vocal mix...
In the other hand there's beautiful things which really means somthing and there some quality stuff like as the rush comes...
Still there's good vocal trance that I like and they were based on it like beautiful thing signum mix,
calling your name and all this is nice but its not somthing special yet quite good...
so I think that songs that are based on vocals is fine almost anytime , but vocals in songs like I said which they add is really poor and I'm aint saying that to flame dave , I just don't like what he's done with 5th_dimension.

vocal preference is different for everybody, but you are generalizing. it's like saying, all prog sucks or all techno sucks because all it is is that repetitive crap you can't dance to - it's just stupid to say that.

This is pretty much the only kind of vocal trance I really like. When you combine big synths and a melodic vocal line you end up either sounding too busy or having to compromise the complexity of the instrumental portion -- either way I'll pass.
Also, some of you took offense and told him not to worry about what others listen to. He explained why he's worrying about it. When everyone opens their mouth and takes what the record labels are feeding them they're only encouraging them to put out more and more of the stuff in larger, more dilute quantities. Commercial trends can only be changed by the consumer.
And no, I as well was not introduced to trance by vocals. |

I get so sick of this haughty BS from the 'purists' that because a genre of music has commercial appeal in a few places that it's somehow not worthy of being listened to anymore. To me this is bandwagon jumping along the same lines as the people who get into a genre because it's becoming popular.
I don't agree with people who say that vocals are added *only* to make a track more commercial, ie: Ligaya vocal versions and so on, unless you've talked to the artists and they flat out say that that's the reason that they did it I think *I'll* be giving them the benefit of a doubt and assume that they released the song that way because they thought it was an interesting and worthy variation on the original mix.
And I don't think vocals are only for the "stupid masses", sometimes I think added vocals ruin an already quality song, but sometimes they're necessary for the track to be any good, and sometimes their addition can put a song over the top...who are you, me, or anyone else to say that an entire genre of music has to be straight-jacketed into a narrow vision..?
You don't like vocal trance, don't listen to it, simple as that.

Real Trance?
Sorry if I'm not buying into your assumption here that *you* should be the one to dictate what "real trance" is or isn't. Ditto for you somehow being the one who should decide what people should or shouldn't be excited about. If you don't like As the Rush Comes get off the floor when it comes on and mope about with a lager while the rest of us dance our asses off...it's your option mate.

Oh, surprise surprise...another load of elitist crap...I get so sick of hearing this "I've been into this scene since such and such a year, and that makes me an authority on the subject."
Ditto for the Prog fans who give the genre a bad name by talking down to people constantly because they're still fans of 'standard' Trance. On this web site I'm almost ashamed to be into Prog because of all the ignorant, snobbish fans of the genre that seem to congregate here.
In summary, no, I don't agree with you, and I wish you and the other people who think that they should have the right to dictate what does or doesn't exist would slag off.
There's nothing wrong with having an opinion of what makes good music, but it's crap to try and push that opinion on other people as a sort of religion. I don't like rock music right now, but I'm not out preaching on the street corner that it should be taken off the shelves...why? Because I'd be livid if someone came up to me and said that *my* music is crap and shouldn't exist. Just like I'm livid when someone comes up and tells me that I shouldn't have a right to not believe in mainstream religions.
Music preference is one of those things that you just have to play by ear, people have their own likes and dislikes, and telling them that what they like is e isn't going to do anything other than make them dislike you.
Let people listen to what they want to listen to without being harassed about it... |

yah its more of a cyclical whiplash effect often from the people that came to TA on the coattails of cheese, as most of us did, and only learned that there were better songs. vocals can be good, or they can be - yeah, its opinion. same goes for non vocal tunes.
and besides, there are great prog tunes with vocals too, and they are nothing like dj sammy or lasgo-
music is music, and its all opinion. no one can go around telling others what to like or dislike. if someone hates vocal trance, thats fine but good luck having fun at any event or club if you are so closedminded! :( | |

the dj's have to make money out of tunes that unfortunately most people won't buy without the vocals. Just because you have been listening to trance since 91 don't mean . there are people who spend long amounts of time doing something and never quite pick it up. other people just come in and everything clicks.
long live trance in all its forms so that everyone is satisfied. |

| vocals were ok when they were first being used..early jan johnston stuff, sarah mclachlan remixes..etc. but now it seems like 70% of trance is all vocals.. its ing amazing i find tracks that i never knew it had a vocal version and what do u know? it ing does... now, all i can associate this is that its a marketing tactic for the labels cuz its more appealing to the masses if a track has someone singing on it... it sometimes frustrates me which is why i replied to this thread.. |

ok guys...u like vocal trance..u get vocal trance..there is something for everyone ...everything fine or WHAT ???..i'm just not open minded, i'm a purist, an authority, mr daydreamer says even i never picked it up :toothless :D
some more observations.
- READ STARGLIDERS POST 100x times and maybe some of you will find very interesting information in it ..maybe it CLICKS dear dreamer ;)
- FACT is that quality of TRANCE releases is LOWER now than before .. now i let u think of why ...maybe just listen to the traxx from 98-2000 and compare it with the vocaltraxx produced today..NO COMPETITION POSSIBLE --- too much focusing on vocals [AND SO ON MONEY !] >> this erodes real talent !!
...so...quality is LOWER now...why ?? industry WANTS vocal traxxx...because people buy easier vocal trance...therefore producers are FOCUSING on vocal traxxx....in the end what happens >>> THE WORD *TRANCE* HAS NO MORE MAGICAL VALUE -- so called POP TRANCE TAKES OVER -- MONEY FOR THE INDUSTRY !!!!!!!
maybe some of u should read mystic books.TRANCE is a magic word,magik muzik and a higher state of CONSCIOUSNESS.
