paul has always kinda spun that way. for his longer sets, he'd start off trancey, go for two hours of electro stuff, then the last hour or two kill you again.
he also plays a lot harder in germany to get the crowd moving, so the techno/harder tracks in the middle of the set is normal for him.

i've done 5 back2backs and the set the first night has been entirely different then the set the 2nd night. but let me also say 3 of the 5 have been boston/nyc. one miami/dc, one frankfurt/wuppertal.
first night is in boston at avalon, a 2.5 hour set and the second night is at exit/roxy for 6+ hours. two entirely different clubs, two entirely different crowds, two entirely different sets, two entirely different experiences. some of the tracks overlap, but they are never played in the same order.
just my experiences.

John,
I understand where you are coming from. Sometimes I don't feel a certain set, or a track here and there. But I don't love PvD just for his taste in music. It is also the quality of his mixing (we won't talk about scratched CDs), the love of the crowd/fans and the pure energy that is present at a PvD show. That is why live performances mean so much more to me than listening to set a I d/l. being there makes all the difference. and being there with TAs, well...you know how that is.
I hope that you come to PVD on Friday cause no party is the same without you and you know you'll have a great time!

P.S. I have only known you for 6 months or so, but YOUR style, your personality, your life has evolved and changed with the time. You try out new things and such. PvD is a person, too, and he grows and evolves with us... |

Ahhh.. the PvD hate continues... I shouldn't have sent you the new set, john...;)
I personally love PvD's new style... damn uplifting trance just deosn't do it for me anymore... I need hard beats and breaks... If PvD spun 6 hours of uplifting stuff I'd go crazy... I love it when he plays all that tech and electro stuff... it adds so much more to a straight up trance set you'd hear from armin or someone like that...
And tek's right.. nobody in the trance scene can mix as well as pvd... he's incredibly concentrated when he spins and it shows in the energy he invokes with those skills.... |

hey john, your opinion is your opinion, that's fine, i respect that. i kinda wish more people felt like you and didn't go to his gigs so that there would be more room to dance and breathe for the people that truly love the music. |

| PVD is still GOD of trance but the last few times i saw him, he has been playing alot of dark hard progressive. i dont know... thats not the PVD i used to see at twilo. oh well, i guess he got bored of playing his usual sounds. .... ARMIN will do for now. |

hats off to john for flaming pvd on this board. i think it is great if you don't care for his music and say that. i don't either, you know that (though i just don't like trance in general so that is a bit different)
but i wont argue that he is extremely talented and versatile. and he throws down may tracks that i really like. i defintiely respect the man for his contribution to the scene if not how musch his promoters charge...:rolleyes:
but the biggest thing i don't like about pvd is the hype. i think at least half of the ppl at his shows are irritating and on too many drugs. i think that a lot of what i see surrounding him is obsessive. and although i agree he is extremely talented, i don't see how he can be that much better... |
