feb@roxy was the WORST set i've ever heard paul spin.
it was so boring. it put me and the rest of my crew (die hard pvd fans) on our butts at the back of the dance floor for a good hour before we decided to leave EARLY. i like it hard, but that wasn't hard, it was just BORING.
i didn't think there was any flow to the set, and it wasn't going anywhere so we left at 8.
feb@roxy was so insanely good...a great mix of everything, and great flow through a 6 hour set. imo paul at his finest!
woohoo! pvd tomorrow...

Another thing that sucks is pvd's new style. Scratchy dark progressive. Its not even good progressive. He starts with some trance ex. Solar stone, Inca, nu nrg stuff, then drops it down a lot into La La land, Dark beat, and some Liebing mix of whatever. Then throws in some trance ... words..... then ends it with Nothing but you. ehhh I think he has fallen from his thrown a bit. Maybe I feel this way because I’ve seen him nine times in the past four years.
He is playing lately bottom line .. Daft punk is another one he dropped in his essential mix set a few days ago

ok, 1st off, I do agree that NBY is not up to PvD standards, but it doesnt suck. It's just different. It may not be YOUR style, but unless you produced it you can't really say it sucks. I have been guilty of this in the past, but I have learned and have taken an ear to all genres. I dislike deep dish remixes and productions, but I think they are brilliant in both aspects, its just not my style. NBY maybe just isnt your style John, but I don't think progressive is either considering how much you hype Scot Proj and Talla lol. I hope you wont pigeonhole yourself into 1 style either. Open your mind. I personally think thats what PvD tries to do when he comes to the US. He tries to expand our views on all forms of EDM (ie. Techno/trance/breaks/house/prog/electro) and I give him props for trying. Anyone can come in and play hours on end of trance and uplifting anthems like Ferry and Armin and get the crowd worked up (they are both great by the way :P ) but PvD tries to go 1 step further and educate the masses. People here are so brainwashed about what is good and what isnt because its all about the herd mentality. Not everyone here likes PvD or his style, but because there are so many who do, those that dissent from the group often feel that it isn't worth it to post their dissatisfaction with him.
I admit that I used to like PvD from 94-2000 until I thought he was playing way too much fluff. Now, he has started experimenting again and I have come back to being a fan. I have seen PvD over 60 times and in asorted countries and states and I can say I have heard some bad sets and I have heard some great sets, but thats what makes djs great, the humanity in them. No one is perfect, if they were we would get bored. Its the randomness that keeps the crowd coming...will he play words??? will he play on my mind??? will he play this or that???? if he was flawless and played perfectly each time you wouldn't truelly appreciate how good he is as a dj/producer/programmer.
I do totally disagree with the fact that you said his new style sucks. I don't believe anyone here can say any dj's style SUCKS, because none of us are outh there doing it day in and day out and none of us are among the top 5 djs in the world since mixmag started. If you don't like what he is playing, don't support him, but don't bash him because you feel he isn't playing to YOUR liking. |

I was told this by a wise man once
Open your minds eye up to new things babe. There is alot to be learned. Sometimes instant gratification is not a good thing. So space and time is what its all about !
Everyone who has replied to this thread besides tom and mel have taken this the wrong way. I stated it off with a joke but it goes way deep then that. So let me clarify some points and restate what I already said.
Nothing but you isn't for an angel ! ie. its not a deep / epic song
So why does he always close with it.
1) Dark prog and Epic uplifting trance does not belong in the same set. They clash bad.
2) I like progressive alot. I was forced to listen to it due to having a girlfriend that spins it only. Slowly I learned that instant gratification isn't what Edm or life is about. I enjoy the anticipation the most. It makes everything seem more real and full |
