People here are so brainwashed about what is good and what isnt because its all about the herd mentality. Not everyone here likes PvD or his style, but because there are so many who do, those that dissent from the group often feel that it isn't worth it to post their dissatisfaction with him.

i was trying to make that point but i think i failed miserably...

I stated it off with a joke but it goes way deep then that. |
i didn't get that as a joke.
but your opinions are fine john, and i think ian has shown us that stating your opinion on TA is ok by not closing this thread. no one genre of music is superior, it just depends on your taste. you know mine vary and you are into prog right now (yay!).
i am kind of glad you started this thread cause i expected a lot more flaming and everyone has seemed pretty mature about our differences in opinion. |

| y does it seem that when he plays in NYC, he plays dark hard progressive... but when he plays in europe he seems to play more of a uplifting sound. |

I don't know about that.. he goes pretty dark, hard, and progressive when he spins in berlin... maybe he doesn't wanna spin 6 hours of uplifting... |

A quick thing I would like to add. I love the fact that PVD tries to mix progressive with uplifting trance. I've actually made more progressive CDs than trance CDs. They're so many great progressive songs out there but why does PVD choose such boring songs.
Aquaculture - Understatement - He's been starting most his sets with this. Slow enough to be ambient music.
Schatrax - Misspent Years (Silicon Soul's Darkroom Dub)
Camouflage - Me & You (Humate Remix)
Proper Naughty Filthy - To The Beat
Infusion - Dead Souls
Santos - No Ticket To Run (Krafty Kuts Remix)
Syntax - Pray (Dave London Dub)
U2 - Elevation (Paul Van Dyk Remix)
Mostly boring prog. Nothing to go crazy about
Arc En Ciel - The Juice
Bryan Zentz - D-Clash
End ly - Joyce
Marc O'Tool - Black 'n' White
Ok tech/schranz to just plain noise
On a scale of one to ten I would rate PVD an 11 when he does his uplifting trance thing. He just goes right down my top 10 list of best songs and plays them one right after another. But when he has his prog moment I would rate him about a 5. When we have those "What do you want PVD to play?" threads, I don't see anyone posting "I want to hear No Ticket To Run by Santos" Everyone picks the uplifting songs and the classics. I don't think I've ever seen a prog song in anyone's list. I think it's cool what he's trying to do but if your gonna be the best at one end, why not make a stong attempt to be the best at the other. |

people might not pick the prog songs, but you cant tell me everyone in that place wasnt going nuts when he dropped Lamb - Gorecki (bill hamel remix) thats about 120 BPM and Proggy. Personally, I'm not a prog head at all, but all uplifting goes nowhere. You need to keep the crowd guessing and PvD has been doing that his entire career. He builds you up and brings you down, then he builds you up a bit more and drops you a bit. He does this throughout the night until finally his last 2 hours are basically heart stopping uplifting trance. A perfect example of this was Factory. His last 2 hours there was amazing. His last 2 hours at Roxy in November were amazing too, as were his last 2 hours at Roxy in Feb. The funny thing here is that a lot of people complain about what he plays, but 100% of the time, those people are standing in front of the booth at every PvD show cheering like its their 1st time seeing him lol |
