The Phoenix in London? Nope...but my two friends were. They asked me to go but it was all ages and there's never any good electronica with that awful Dj Bugsy. |

Thursdays at Pheonix aren't all ages - it's $2.50 drinks! |

but wasn't it all ages this past thursday? That's what my friend said.....they went because his friend is only 17 and doesn't have ID. I haven't talked to them since though.
I generally like Saturdays there because from 2am to 3am, it's all house/funk and TRANCE! I've heard them play Communication, Awakening (york and rank1!), Tiesto's Silence remix, Flight 643, Wings of Love (from Magik 3), Suburban Train, Gouryella, Ligaya, Energy 52....you name it, I've heard those two bums up there play it! |

I got into the Main Room at around 12:30 last night and I chilled in the Goldclub Lounge for about a half-hour or so. Tom Stephan was dropping some alright tunes. He kind of sounded a little too anthemy for me but at least I didn't hear any annoying diva vocals. The crowd in the Main Room was ummmm, yea lol ... nevermind!!! I left the Main Room at around 1am to go hear Lawler, the DJ that I had come to see and I didn't end up going back to the Main Room for the rest of the night as I didn't really care to hear anymore of Tom Stephan or Peter Rauhofer.
So I got into the Kool Haus Steve Lawler just as Steve Lawler had come on. I was kind of disappointed that I didn't get the chance to see Desyn Masiello but he was only playing a warm-up set anyways and he’ll be playing at GUV next month too so I wasn't to bothered by missing out on his set, I was just happy I made it into the Kool Haus on time to see Steve Lawler. I remember there once was a time when I absolutely LOVED Steve Lawler. He was by far my favorite DJ on the planet. Prior to last night however, I hadn't seen him in the longest time and I was actually starting to forget why I used to love him so much. By the end
his set though it hit me. I had remembered why I love Steve Lawler so much.
And why is it that I love Steve Lawler you ask?!
The answer is very simple, straight up he just plays the most upfront, dirtiest and best house music on the planet. I thought Steve Lawler KILLED it last night. It was ass shakin, pipmed up to house music at it’s best. I couldn’t stop myself from hopping around to his beats. And personally, I thought that was the best set I have heard from any DJ all year, even better than Howells @ GUV on Valentines Day. It wasnt as good as his System Soundbar, Element Bar sets but it was still really good.
Tune of the night for me was the track Lawler dropped at around 2:30. Its on his most recent set from the End and it comes in at around the 1:33 min mark of that set. I don’t know what the that tune is called but it is INSANE. Its the track with the strings and the dubby vocal saying b-b-b-b-b-b-ody b-b-b-b-b-b-ody. Bombdogs - Cant Explain at the end of his set was also a nice way of closing things out. That is such a sweet tune.
Unfortunately AVB came on at around 4am as scheduled. My plan of making AVB “disappear” before the set so that Lawler could play for a bit longer didn’t work *lol* but whatever. It sucks that Steve only got to spin for 3 hours, I mean I waited a whole year to see him spin again and he only got the chance to drop a 3 hour set. *meh* what can you do?! I guess 3 hours of Steve Lawler is still better than not getting the chance to see him at all. Hopefully GUV or whomever brings him to Toronto next will be smart enough to book him for an extended classic Steve Lawler set.
Being the prog-house snob that I am I left the club as soon as AVB came on. I know a bunch of people love him, but I just cant stand listening to someone like him anymore. So I took off from GUV as he started to mix out of Motorcycle.
All in all I had an AMAZING NIGHT!!! I got to party with some friends I hadn’t seen in ages. I got in for free. I got oh so hammered last night and Steve Lawler killed it. I couldn’t have asked for much more last night.
Lawler once again restored my faith in house music!!! |

Anyways, the party was InSaNe!! I was only there for Lawler but HOOOOOLY!! Did he ever destroy the place!! The only song I know that he dropped was Deep Dish ft. P. Diddy - Let's Get Ill, but I wish I could get a hold of the whole tracklist, especially the first song.

Dude try and grab his 4 hour set from The End. It was recorded 3 weeks ago and he dropped some of the same tunes on that set as he did last night. Its also streaming on his site in the archive section!!! |

..and I was thinking about whether I should go to this party or not?
I just couldn't miss Lawler because he's the reason I became a tribaladdict :) And he proved to me once again why he is worth being addicted to. I couldn't wait for Masiello to leave so that Lawler can take over and the opening track instantly put a smile on my face hmmmmmmm :happy2: (now, what was that tune?). Didn't really care about the vibe in that place 'cause I was hypnotized.
Jogged around KH a bit because it was too smoky where we were usually chilling and ran into Time2Burn and infinity HiGH.. enjoying the tribal madness and celebrating a birthday, though very modest about it ;) (Peeeeeter, the drinks are on me next time).
Lawler was getting better and better. 11/10!!
Hopped over to OrangeRoom with Time2Burn :) to check the jungle fever and met desidel and Endlesswave destroying the floor out there :D :D caught the fever too and couldn't just stand there (I didn't know I could dance like that to jungle. It was wicked and a totally different crowd, although toooooooooo loud).
Back to KH, where AVB was starting. I've seen him before, I wasn't impressed and wasn't expecting anything different to be this time, and he didn't deliver anything different, anthems, anthems.. Although, I didn't feel like just standing there, so kept on dancing. Stayed almost til the end, and I was so beat afterwords..
Overall, it was a lot of fun and I had a great time (except for the period when my knees blocked out.. which scared me, but got back in form in a short while).
The people.. well, my friends used me as a shield from the gay crowd, other then that, the vibe was good.
Hey to: Time2Burn, infinity HiGH, desidel, Endlesswave, Swamper and rabbitjoker in the order of appearance :D :D
TranceGeek, of course.. hardcore :D.. it's too weird now if you don't come to a party with me. |

This is TRANCEaddict, right? No wonder most people in here wanted to see AVB. If you can't "stand" listening to an "anthemy" guy like AVB, well maybe you should register at prog-housesnob.org or something.:p |
