i do the exact thing, which is just usually chuck down a track (beat match it in about 30 seconds) move it to the breakdown and start the transisition. If the transition is 1 phrase in length(32 beats or around 13 seconds) it means that the maximum time it takes me to mix 4 tracks together is around 52 seconds. thats exactly 8 seconds less time a day then you spend mixing. |
hahaha nice :D |

really, i'd like to know (despite the fact that i'm not a dj and telling me would then make these secrets cease to be as such) |
Well i always though Dj secrets where the hints and tips that many people don't tell you about how to DJ properly...the faster way to learn on how to BPM match and how to CUE properly. |

I practice twice a day 1hour set each time.
on weekends my friend comes over and we have a mix "one for one" record. Which is good learning new tricks on the decks. |

ahahahaha true
I prefer to do like 1-2 min transitions, much more rewarding and some of them sound amazing. Some of my favourite mixes are like 3 and a half minutes . And I mean both tracks aare playing out the speakers for those 2 mins without clashing any melodies or anything.
But this is probably because when I started out I couldn't monitor at ALL for various reasons, so I learnt to beatmix and cue pretty hardcore because I could only hear what came out the master, didn't have anything playing off booth either. So I pretty much brought the 2nd track in low, and had them both playing and cued it up b4 so the first track ended right when the 2nd track hit it's breakdown.
Yeah kinda weird, but it's helped me out heaps now.
Oh and I only really practice like once a week I guess, I really need to do some more for the sake of it, I just don't find the time.. Even though I'm not working :conf: |

I dont know of anysecrets :conf:
But i do know a few advanced beatmatching skills...
take for example being able to beatmatch two tracks together, when only the key notes of the other track are playing ( ie. No BEATS ARE OCCURING AT ALL for that track )
lets take the buildup for carrera 2. it almost goes for 1 and a half minutes without a single beat, but relying on the notes (they are in key to the beats(even though none are occuring) and follow the same structure / hard to explain) its possible to beatmatch a track to it. Even though its not necesarry, it can be a BIG BIG time saver.
and as for the Cue thing, im suprised at how many people own decks that dont even know how to phrase match properly  |

Well, i didn't know how to do it properly because of the response time of the turntable being slow and all. It was impossible to try and match the beat by just pressing the start/stop button, it would start too slow and it will start on the 3rd beat... So i decided why not just play the second vinyl 2 seconds before the beat kicks in so it matches perfectly....and thats how i learnt it...took about 2 days to figure this out though.
Its very hard to explain for people that didnt understand what i said. |

uhmm, really, the proper way to do it is to hold down the spindle, press the start button, and when ever you want to throw the track in, let it go with a light flick of the wrist. |

Im just saying that the Torque of alot of decks vary. If you get used to the 2 seconds you're decks take to spin up, you might have trouble on another deck that may take like 3 seconds to spin up.
but if you use you're wrist, its alot more accurate. just give it a go because it cant hurt, and its more fun anyway. :) |
