Why is CBC so biased against the US and Israel? (pg. 8)

I deleted my long post in this thread, since it was embarrassing to be a part of yet another political flame explosion.

Get a grip, guys. How long will it take you to realize that no one's innocent? That no one "started it?" That no one's more responsible than anyone else? That no one is 100% objective? And most importantly, that no one here is smarter than everyone else?

There is a difference between stating one's own opinion, and insulting everyone else's. If you simply must prove to the world that your ideas are the most valid, then Emery's right, take it to the bloody political forum where you can argue with all the other flame-addicted psychos.

And good lord, what is the deal with these "honours history" students...

Ugh!! Come on man... whatever, no point to start another argument!!
Who cares, he was just saying to post political threads under the appropriate forum...whatevz, I’m sure he didn’t mean anything more by it.

What do you mean what's wrong with Honours History students? We actually have a valid and informed opinion on matters like Israel....since the problems there are steeped in centuries of HISTORY!

And you go on about others bitching and arguing....and then you make a disparaging comment about history students. Sounds like a hypocritical statement to my "honours history" ears.

I can understand someone's frustration with CBC, they do have a left wing bias..that's undeniable. The political leaning of a media corporation would be irrelevant if they weren't payed by our taxes. I mean, if the CBC wants to interview terrorist group representatives who lie (ie. the person from Hamas who was interviewd by CBC and their outlandish comments were not challenged)...then fine...I don't wanna pay for it with my taxes. Listen to the American PBS if you're fed up with CBC, it's quite good and much more balanced, even though it still has a left leaning agenda aswell.

But seriously, I read a few of the flame posts in here, the flaming has to stop. Don't hate people for their political preferences!

I stopped posting political comments a while ago because (as many have said before) it takes you nowhere and just divides people unneccessarily. I realize my opinions on America and Israel for example probably don't jive with most people on this board and I don't want that to impede my making friends and partying with all the people on this board.

I dont think we should hate people because they have a differnt point of view.
I dont think this one big happy family and nothing could break it apart,I mean I might argue with some people here about soem issues but once I see them at a party I forget all about it, and have fun all night!!:)

Hey man, chill, I never said that the people who post there aren't nice, it's just that the threads there inevitably go up in flames due to comments like: "The Isreali's turned the desert into a jewel. The Arabs turned the desert into a wasteland." Unfortunately there's no way to curb statements like these without taking sides and offending someone, which is why I don't like the Internet as a medium for political debate.

I know you post there too, but believe me that statement had nothing to do with you personally, or your friends. :) It's just a few bad eggs that stir , but those few end up making a lot of people upset!

It's touchy issues... like I mentioned before, I had a friend who was actually from Palestine, it took us a few months to ever touch on these types of things, because you have to know a person fairly well to discuss it at length without offending them...

in reference to my previous post.....what do you mean what was I smoking? Have you never read up on how Israel as a nation was created?

Ok, here's the quick rundown....after WW1, the British seized a large part of what used to be the Ottoman Empire (this included Palestine) and several of these broken up states became British Protectorates. After the Holocaust, thousands and thousands of Jews started going back to Palestine because the british government were planning on splitting up half the territory for the Jews (since it was their land until being conquered by Islam after the 7th century). To many fundamentalist Jews, the British did not act quickly enough and many extreme groups began carrying out terrorist acts on British military personnel, civilians and Arabs in cities such as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. British soliders had their heads cut off.....their testicles smashed, hung from trees, etc. Have you not heard of the King David Hotel bombing.....over 120 people (mostly British) were killed in July 1947 by Jewish terrorists. After these events (and escalating problems in Turkey) the bankrupt British pulled out and handed the palestine/Israel problem over to the UN in 1948, who subsequently caved under AMERICAN pressure and made all of Palestine the new Israel.....basically ignoring the former British plan to divide the two nations equally.

So.....any Jewish people on here that were pissed off at my comment about Israeli terrorists in the late 1940's.....well, put a sock in it already.

It's true that there were Jewish terrorists in the '40s, there was a radical zionist group called the Irgun I believe. One point that you forgot to mention is the fact that it was the British restriction on Jewish immigration during that period (to appease the arabs opposed to Jewish settlement in the holy land)..it was that restriction that contributed to the entrapment of Jews in Europe only to be dessimated by the Nazis.

What did you expect the British to do? Just let thousands of Jews into Palestine and cause havoc? Even though the Palestinians had basically conquered the Jews and forced them out centuries earlier, the Arabs had made Palestine their home. Can you reasonably expect them to all of a sudden allow their religious enemies into what they see as THEIR nation? In my opinion...the British played it smart and did what they could. They let as many in over time as they saw fit...ie the amount of Jewish immigrants that they could handle. And you're talking about restrictions....these restrictions came AFTER 1945 and AFTER the Holocaust's worst days. Please don't try to make it look like the British knowingly kept the Jews out of Palestine and just let them die at the hands of the Germans.

And if you really want to talk restrictions....NO WESTERN nation would accept Jews after the Holocaust and even DURING WW2! That includes England, USA, France and even Canada. We basically all just said NO to them but to be fair....the general public in the west didn't really know the full extent of Jewish persecution. If the UN had just followed Britain's original plan, I doubt we'd have as much trouble as we do in Israel these days. But that's what happens when the Americans stick their stupid noses in and interfere.

Oh...I still haven't taken either side here..I'm just pointing out the facts.
