Why is Toronto trance scene so different from Montreal and Europe ?? (pg. 2)

For the first two years I partied, I was one of 3 asians I saw at parties. We were all CBC (Canadian born) and spoke English more than anything. Then in about 98, I started seeing more asians at parties, namely Cantonese people from Hong Kong. Up until then all Kongers I knew at school were into karaoke and Cantopop (Cantonese pop) and didn't really know what a rave was. It was cool when they discovered raves because for the first time I could practice my cantonese while partying, lol.
Hong Kong's rave scene is much newer than Toronto's and I'm guessing the rise of their rave scene parallels with the number of Cantonese people at parties.
As for the Trance thing... maybe it's because most people start out listening to Trance? I don't know. |

Oh yeah, and the lack of females thing... I tend to see that at any type of event I go to except breaks parties.
I don't know why... When the whole Epic Trance craze was going weren't there a tons of chicks that loved it? I know I did (and still do). |

| Montreal is really techno-ey. I was at Aria last weekend. Their lighting and soundsystem are TOP NOTCH. Crisp sound without being too loud. |

| I think it also has to do a lot with the fact that the CRTC will NOT allow a radio station like ID&T here to exist due to the fact that they can't play 40% (I think or less.. Correct me if I am wrong plz) Canadian Content unless a hell of a lot of indipendantproducers get their stuff on the radio. I think that if you had a radio station playing Trance, Prog, techno (and what else not under ground electronca) and NOT the stuff on z103.5 then I think a larger and more diverse crowd would attend Trance events and be into the music. I think Trance (or electronica in General) does not have as much exposure here in Canada. I mean, to most people, when I slap my trance CDs on @ work ppl keep asking me "oh u listen to Techno eh?" which in fact IS NOT techno. Anything with a dance beat is rather called "Gino beats" or "Techno". If we had a radio station similair to ID-T then I think we would have a more diverse crowd. Just my 2 cents. |

about zi women
I think they don't like trance b/c it's too fast or harder to dance to. lets face it most of the "dancing" at trance clubs isn't really dancing
hip-hop or pop are easier to dance to, esp. to do all those sexy moves that women like to do. for example ladies prefer house to trance.
also I think women like singing more than music. look at the orange room when they play hip-hop. so many ladies in there, while the main trance room is a semi-sausage fest :D
I could be wrong though
:)
damn I am bored today :whip: |

really ... ? maybe it's more obvious in rural parts of Europe, but i'd think in major urban areas like London or Paris that it's quite commonplace. Anyhow, i'm gonna definately check it out next summer when i go .. |
in london, the asian population is a bit more dominant than places in spain, italy, germany and even france. but the number of asians interested in electronic music is minimal compared to how big the electronic music scene is in england .. last year when i attended gatecrasher and this year at homelands, i didn't see many asians, only a few here and there in the various tents but not like a mass of people like at guv. there was a so called asian corner in one of the tents but there were only about 20 there in that one tent. if i had to estimate there were maybe about 2-300 asians compared to the thousands that attended each festival. even when i went to fabric and turnmills, i was one of the few asians present.

actually make that 3 .. kandee is from Korea ..
anyhow, i think asians are just more comfortable settling in places were English is the predominant language which is probably why you see more of them in England than anywhere else in Europe. Then again, England is a hotbed for any type of immigration as are most commonwealth countries..
i think things are changing tho .. give it like 15-20 years and you'll see a greater mix of people at parties everywhere. I know the Gatecrasher parties in Hong Kong definately have a lotta non-asians attending them so it's definately a sign of the times .. |
