The rule is very simple . . .
Don't request mp3's for download, don't request sites or ftp servers or warez sites to download files, don't post links for those either.
The majority of file sharing is not legal, there are of course exceptions to every rule, on Tranceaddict we are here cos we love the music, and if that music is to survive we need to support the artists and labels that produce that music.
I myself belive the use of MP3 for EDM is beneficial, i belive it promotes our genre of music and am all in favour of sharing mp3's.
there are many ppl who have come to love trance because they have downloaded a MP3.
It is not us that are blinkered but the labels who only seem to see those $'s coming in thru the door getting less and less each year.
Some DJ / Producers do see the benefit of MP3 for promotional use but they too are governed by the rules laid down to them by the labels they are signed to.
The mp3's that are shared on this site are there by artist / labels permission.
We could put a sticky thread on the top of each forum stating TA policy on filesharing but how many newcomers to the board do you think would read them ?
Those that post threads requesting links for downloads only want that information, they wont read any sticky threads saying dont post threads for mp3 downloads.

You do realise this means noone has a right to get all high and mighty when newbies come on asking about mp3s. I still think its disgusting how some of you act when they have no way of knowing you don't support file sharing - unless they're psychic of course  |

Here's a question...
How are vinyl and records (wax) covered by copyright laws?
In America most songs in any genre are usually pressed onto a limited number of records, and then they all become CDs.
But most vinyl that DJs buy (here in America) come from overseas. I myself buy a lot of vinyl from labels overseas (Vandit, blackhole, Armada.. etc) So is there copyright laws on those mp3s of those songs?
I think that downloading a tune will increase my chances of actually purchasing that vinyl. I look at vinyls as single track CDs. im not buying an entire album full of songs, im buying a track with 2 mixes, maybe more
I know im probably sounding hypocritical here, but I feel that the music we listen to..trance..is an exception. I had a conversation with my friend who listens to punk music and he said he downloads an artists music because he cant find rare copies of a bands CD..
Ok i better wrap my rant up before I start making this into a novel.
Here's one more point i want to make.. DJs in clubs, when they spin a record, do they have to pay that artist a fee for using their track in their set? No.
So in conclusion.. downloading for me for just 1 track or a liveset that i cant buy else where is perfectly fine. But i will go out and buy a DJ mixed album..GU series is an example, also MoS albums.
Downloading an album like that is a big no-no for me. I try not to download a set that I can go out and buy.
ok im done |

There seems to be alot of hostility around here. You know it's rather amusing to me that I am considered a newbie or whatever you want to call it.
I have been into the *scene* for about 15 years now which makes me alot older than most people on here I assume. I have hundreds of (discs and vinyl) that I bought in stores.
I only recently started downloading mp3's and those are only live sets which are impossible to purchase anywhere. And you know what that makes me do...buy highly overpriced tickets to see Tiesto, PVD, Sasha & Digweed, etc live and their new albums when they come out.
If I DL something and really like it I'm gonna buy the album instead of listening to a sh*tty sounding MP3.
Maybe I'm getting too old for this *scene* anymore. But some of you people need to lighten up a bit and not take things so seriously. |
