i don't feel like rereading the whole thing again... but just look at the first page and how it starts... it sets the mood, trust me.

I heard it sucked ass with alot of Electro .

I hope no Aria people asked him to play hard again. Montreal doesn't like it hard.

I wish that club would let the DJs play the style they are known for. I don't understand why a club would book an epic trance DJ and get them to play hard (or prog, or techno, electro, or other crap). They can hear that anyday of the year

But, by far, that's not what the discussion evolves into after page 1 or 2.

And that right there is the attitude, down to a tee, which I simply can't identify with at all. I'm not meaning to pick on you in particular, Silke, and I'm sorry if it sounds like that - the fact is, that first sentence has long been a buzz phrase on TA and it took me a while to figure out exactly what it means to me.

I'm sure you mean that in the best possible way, but in the end, the implication behind them is "XYZ club is infallible, therefore if you didn't have a good time then the problem must have been *you*." Well, the people who think that are entitled to their opinions, and I'm glad they had a good time. But when it comes time to decide who I want to hang out with, it's not likely to be the eternally wide-eyed keener ("Ohmygosh, the club is so awesome and it's FERRY!!! We have to stay and dance all night no matter how crowded and smokey and ridiculously loud it is!") any moreso than it is the relentless pessimist ("OMG WTF, DID YOU HEAR THAT? THE RECORD SKIPPED FOR A NANOSECOND!"). It's going to be someone in between, who has fun on a good night but isn't afraid to admit when they're just having a time, and most of all, isn't afraid to call it quits when it's just not worth staying 'til the end. Worst thing is when I'm somewhere with a friend and he insists on staying 'til the bitter end and just won't leave. Sometimes, I just wanna go home, and I'd rather not have to deal with the "what the hell is wrong with you?" attitude.

Why are we spoiled? What is sooooooooo special about the fancy lasers and the high-priced DJs? Sure, it amazed me the first few times when I was a virgin to the scene, but I'm long past that stage. Honestly, I think we have every right to "take the Guv for granted" because the club totally, totally takes its patrons and its crowd for granted. Of course every club is in business for the money, but a lot of the time I think I'd actually rather spend my time with a few good friends at a small club that KNOWS it HAS to please its patrons in order to turn a profit.

True, I love to party with the TA crew, but no matter how many TAs are present it's just not a good night for me unless I've got room to breathe (and relatively clean air for the same purpose). Why force myself to have a good time? The crowd is the whole point of going out to a club, otherwise I might as well just stay home and listen to the same tunes. TOTAs are great but when I'm blind from the smoke and deaf from the music and suffocating from the sweaty bodies, the TOTA presence doesn't help too much.

But, like I said, that's just my opinion, and you're all entitled to yours. Although I think there are quite a few people on here who know what I'm talking about but just don't want to speak up, because they'll be labelled vibe-killers and party-poopers. But just so you know, you aren't alone.

Frick'n Guv...
torontobarfly
well i don't take the guv or the scene in toronto for granted...

i feel very lucky to have the clubs we do in this city...

i will always manage to have a good time regardless of how rammed it is...

but there's rammed and there's dangerous...and saturday night was dangerous...more than once i saw people getting shoved to the floor and stepped over or even on....does that sound like an acceptable clubbing experience to you???? some in here seem to think it is...

our buddy greedy charles can cut back on the amount of people he lets in and still draw the big name dj's and still make a pretty profit...
Endlesswave
I agree w Craig, there's crowded and then there's dangerous. For thos that say "don't go" ok fine it's true. But when it's just ing ridiculous you act as though we're 5 crying about it. It's not, the people complaining have a valid point. I don't mind crowded...I've been to Guv for almost every special event for the past 3 years, I'd say about 3 or 4 of those parties they were REALLY rammed to the point where it's dangerous. Still, I'd rather pay more and have more room to dance than pay $15 and be not able to enjoy myself as much as I would have. I mean it defeats the purpose, a dance club you're there to DANCE. Not stand around and "enjoy" the music, I can do that at home. As for why doesn't Charles just up the $ of admission when he can possibly make the same amount of $ beats me. I'd say it was for liquor sales...more people = more people that drink ie more $$ obviously...but he could offset that by charging more per ticket. Meh...

I had a great time! I spent the first 4 hours with Digweed and the last 4 with Ferry. I missed it when it was crazy-packed at Guv, so it worked out great. Both were fantastic. I'm Fran's buddy from Detroit, by the way, for those of you who have met me. I don't post much in TOTA. In fact, I think I hang out in T.O. more than I post in this forum. Anyway, I just want to express my sincere gratitude to Irish Graham, Tatgirl, and Dallasstar for letting me stay with them this weekend. Also, it was great to hang out with Ray, Cuzo, Stereoprincess, Rich, and Pete. (Sorry, I don't know all you're screen-names.) It was nice meeting jpgrdn, thabroad, Dr. goodvibe, and Desidel throughout the night. Oh yeah, thank you Robin and Melissa for having us over before the show.

I love coming to Toronto because you have such a good scene up here and everyone I've met has been really friendly. I don't want to say you guys are spoiled (and I agree overcrowding sucks), but I don't drive from Detroit once a month for nothing!

Anyway, thanks all! Next time, it's CLUB URANUS ;) !!
