Review: Ferry Corsten @ Guvernment - March 13 2004 (pg. 5)

Well what can I say, I had a decent time last night. Of course it sucked how packed the Guv was, and how little oxygen there was, but I kept positive throughout the experience to the best of my ability. The worst people in the crowd, were those on drugs, for they were the only one's who couldn't tell that they were constantly banging into you. Everyone else at least was TRYING to avoid one another...
I wish my best friend coulda tolerated it all a lil better, he HATED it, and although he was being really nice about it, I had to leave with him at 5am when I figured Ferry would be finishing up. Now I wish I coulda stayed till the end (8:22am!?!). All I wanted to do was dance... I woulda danced from beginning to end if the company I was with could 've allowed it... I guess I gotta reconsider who I go party with next time, cause sometimes it's too hard to have a good time with some people...
Kid Vicious played a decent set, some good tunes in there... And Ferry, well, overall wasn't bad.. he played a handful of VERY good tunes, quite a few average decent trancers, and the rest was ... I dunno if it's just me, I'm becoming too desensitized to average tunes, I hate them. and I can't stand the prog... where's the MELODY!?
Best tune I'm glad I heard and got to dance to last night was:
F Massif - Somebody (Ferry Corsten remix) :eyes:
I too wish they'd charge more and have half the amount of people in there. It's the same old everytime, and it will never improve.. ever. I guess the KH now takes the cake for venue over the Guv by far... another bitch (last one I swear) is the sound system. WTF are those sound engineers doin?? When you have a Phazon soundsystem you can tweak it so that you get the best, loudest and CLEAREST sound out of it if you wanted to, but noooooo, all they in care about is BASS BASS BASS... at some points you cant even hear the tune playing, just kick and bassline noise...
Other than the negatives, I had a great time. Some decent tunes were played, got to see and meet alot of new TA's. My sister was supposedly there but I didnt see her all night. Oh, and as usual, lots of beautiful women were present (what else there to do when you cant dance???) :D
*sigh*
I just wanna dance...
P.S: Surprisingly, I managed to appear in a couple of Maxtuh's pics (Im the dude ALL the way to the right in the baby blue top, talking to Dj Vibez): http://www.trance365.com/modules.ph...&func=3ppds.htm :toothless |

| Ferry kicked ass. Yes, it was crowded, but honestly, I don't think it was any more crowded than most special events. Yes the coat check line sucked. (They lost my coat for the second time in a row). But it always sucks. the crowds, the heat and the tight space are all part of any event at the Guv... Once you accept it, you can focus on having fun (it's a zen thing). |

For all of you people who bitch & complain about how rammed the club was, i think you all need to relax & think for a sec... maybe if they didn't let your ingrateful ass into the place it wouldn't be that rammed.... It's a business... if you don't like it that rammed DONT GO!
you all complain about this and that and never appreciate the hard work these people to do 1) get the club running 2) make things go as smooth as possible and mostly 3) bring these big names in for you people!
I don't work for the club, or any club in that matter.. but it seems that alot of you people take this stuff for granted.. world's best dj's for under 20$ canadian.... go to vegas, l.a, new york, etc and try and find a regular night that's under $20!
THINK before you speak/type |
Ah, but it sounds like you DO work for a club. (Particularly, this club). When I saw how LONG that line was outside, I knew trouble was headed our way... Guv has had a long reputation of over-packing them in, but after the life-endangering Labour of Love, they caught a lot of stick from the public, & followed better capacity guidelines from then on.... til last night. Whether the public pays $20 or $40, there's no need to cram us in like animals so they can make a few extra bucks. |

okies here's my dual review:
Ferry Corsten & Ronald Van Gelderen aka. Kid Vicious @ The Guvernment
Sorry to everyone at the meetup for not being able to make it. I had some other matters to tend to beforehand, but eventually got to the Guv with 24_7, Eso, and Malek at about 10:45pm. I proceeded into the Guv with 24_7 while Malek and Eso headed into the KH.
Entrance took a couple of seconds thanx to the E2EK1EL upline. Once I got inside the Guv the TA's were everywhere going at it early. CLub was very spacious at this point and Ronald Van Gelderen aka. Kid Vicious was already throwing down some very sweet trance. The system I noticed was turned down significantly. It was nice to be able to talk to people in the club without having to scream off the top of ur lungs and going deaf but you could definately feel that the power of the system was somewhat lacking.
I enjoyed many moments of Van Gelderen's set for the basic fact that there was plenty of room to dance and the place was still feeling very comfortable. Good to meet all the new TA's that I did as well as all the usual suspects. Eventually many of us made it to the stage of the main room into the night as Ferry Corsten came on for his set as the place started to get really packed as most of you guys have already mentioned. I'm not gonna complain about the crowdedness in there since it's already something to expect at the Guvernment on a special event night, but indeed it was VERY crammed inside and made it difficult to enjoy oneself. Good thing there was a little more room up on the stage where a lotta the TOTA's were hanginging out, but I can honestly say that it felt more crowded in there than it did during Labour of Love I.
Ferry's set was very good from what I heard of it. Lots of friendly people this night and lots of energy coming from the crowd. People clapping, chanting, all the sorts which added to the positive aspects & vibe of the night.
After doing my rounds of the club and even caught a bit of DJ Czech at Charlies, I eventually left the Guv for the Koolhaus to entice myself with the sounds of John Didweed.
Shouts to all the TOTA tranceheads I encountered in the night:
Cono_sur, Lil_kandi_Angel, Mobius & KEvin the Lurker, DJStylez, KUUUUUUUUUURRRRFEEEEEEWWWW!, BubbleGirl & Tamira, WAlterMindz & liquidchick & KevinEarth, Cereal & chanoa & Terry & starshine, Jeff & tha whole Burlington/Buffalo contingent, RabbitJoker, tatgirl & Irish Graham, Cuzo, Brindor, DJ Ampz & Kevin, Muff2k, Time2Burn & Red, goodnet, dallasstar, 24_7 & mucopus, etc.. etc.. my appologies if i left anyone out, but if i did plz. let me know..
Even caught a glimpse of Swamper and Pope Queen up in the D-Luxe Lounge looking down over all he surveys.
John Digweed & Luke Fair @ Koolhaus
Going from listening to 3-4 hours of trance and suddenly into a progressive room was quite interesting and I definately felt the change in tempo. However, the Koolhaus once again reminded me why it's my favourite room of the entire entertainment complex. I am self admittedly a dance-a-holic. If i can't dance I simply can't have a good time!
The only major drawback what a somewhat lower energy in the KH. I've definately seen a much more pumped up crowd and the place was a lot more subdued than the boisterous Guv room from which I had just came.
The setup in the Koolhaus looked amazing. I was told by E2EK1EL that the setup was apparently left up after the Theory party the night before so the place looked top notch. Digweed was already on the decks when I got inside and was laying down an absolutely sick ass set. I did my rounds of the room and bumped into all the usual TOTA proghead suspects. Didn't see Silke (disko-kandi) or Steve (sohaness) tho.
Had my brief reunion with ahlaMalek after finding him again inside. I ended up spending most of the remainder of my night partying it up with a great crew of people: pixiechick, Eso, Infinity High, twitch & gf Magdeline, Max Q, Enraptured, ninjapimp, drgoodvibe & tha_broad, gamma, StereoPrincess, FormNFunktion aka. Aaron Mossey & angelgirl, Firestarter, FRancis & the whole Michigan Crew..
shouts to the other TOTA progheads i saw in tha house including: TranceGeek aka. DJ Mute and DJ Reza
again plz. lemme know if i left out anyone..
Left around 5:30 am with E2EK1EL for Markham Station to get some Souvlaki. Coat check took about 2 mins with the TOTA hookups at the front of the line .. thanks RJ, Calor & Corrine ;)
more pics and VIDEOS to come on Travelninj.com
fun night! :D

1) Sound quality sucked.
2) Ferry sucked. The worst headliner set I've ever heard. Instead of playing for 8 hours or whatever, he should've played well for 3 hours. I only heard like 3-4 tracks that I really enjoyed. The rest were either 'ok' or ty fillers.
3) Guv sucked - waaaaaaaaay too rammed (as bad as Labour of Love)
Maybe if Guv wasn't all that rammed I would've enjoyed the party more. But with constant distractions I just couldn't concentrate on the music.
Ronald van Gelderen was pretty good. Ferry should've let him play longer. |

Ok. For all those who think last night was packed, just remember Labour of Love a few years back. As long as it wasnt like that I can handle it.
out of the last 6 years ive been partying at guv the first 4 years, each saturday was way more crowded. Last night was a walk in the park. Yes it was a little annoying but were u expecting anything different??? |

Well, maybe for you it was a "little annoying". Some of us prefer more room to dance and more air to breathe.
I actually did expect that it would be less packed considering Digweed was spinning at Kool Haus, cause I thought Guv management would be smart enough to put a higher draw DJ at Kool Haus.
They could've at least opened Gold Club Lounge! Yet they decided to save some cash, and just stick us all in the main room. Bastards ! |

It was freaking zoo!, they packed us tight inside , if they wanted to make a little more money, i would be happy to pay a little more on the tickets rather than ing CRAM EVERYONE INSIDE!!! |

| i think i am just going to stick to regular sat nights in the summer, its nice and spacious and the patio is open and if they want the money so badly, atleast make the guvernment bigger by expanding it or something. |
