Le Mans (1971):
cult classic.
I expect no one else here will like it.
Theres ~30 minutes of no (literally zero) dialogue.
Steve McQueen, Porsche 917, Ferrari 512, Le Mans de la Sarthe, some brilliant cinematography and sound
Good movie. |

it has very little plot
It has very little dialogue
It doesn't have any real messages/themes (maybe team over personal glory, but thats only comes out in the last 2 minutes. Theres also a love story but its not exactly a feature, its more used just as a way to understand the main character)
Most people would probably find it a bit boring if they're not into cars and/or racing (historical especially)
a nugget of dialogue
"A lot of people go through life doing things badly. Racing’s important to men who do it well.When you’re racing, it... it’s life. Anything that happens before or after... is just waiting."
But for those who are into racing and the historical 70's era stuff, its great. It captures the essence of the Le Mans 24 hours and those who compete. Its also got some excellent real race footage of some amazing pieces of machinery like the Porsche 917, and the Circuit de la Sarthe. Its also got some really cool pieces of film, theres a ~2 minute sequence with no sound except for the heartbeat of the main character as the clock ticks to start time, and also another sequence where there is a crash occuring in slow motion with no sound, and the few seconds after which swaps between slow motion and real time, taking advantage of a contrast to the cacophany and speed of motor racing to create a really cool effect. The race isn't about long winded dialogues or character interactions, and neither is the movie. Plus its Steve McQueen who was pretty much an all time champ. |

Forget everything you know about Batman and Robin, 70's series, Tim Burton, Joel S (Jim Carrey, Arnie and co.).
This is a darker series based on a darker comic series

Just got back from watching Sweeney Todd. I was pretty disturbed.
Lesson learnt.. I should read the plot before allowing friends to take me to watch random movies. |

I am Legend = Arsepiss
No Country For Old men = Easily one of the best movies I have ever seen. If you can predict the end of this even 3 minutes from the end you are smarter than PKC. The bad guy in this movie would have Batman, Superman and the Hulk ting their pants. Triple thumbs up.

and yeah, totally looking forward to this, im a big big fan of the cohen brothers. they always make something unique. "o brother..." and "intolerable cruelty" were hilarious. |
