There will always be bandwagons against all the massive/successful DJs. The question here is simple:
Have you ever seen Paul van Dyk?
I mean live, not listened to an EM/GDJB/ripped set etc. He plays with immense power and energy, the crowds love him and commands an almost fanatical following. True, some of his own productions have been a bit of a hit and miss affair, but he cant go back to the "old sound", purely because trance has changed (i dont want to use the word "evolved") since the "good old days" of 99.
I respect him more than any other DJ for his work rate. He re-edits a large proportion of the tunes that he plays to create his own (and perhaps to also make his life easier). He is pushing forward the use of modern technology by using Final Scratch, and whilst he will never have the technical "wizardry" of James Zabiela his mixing is nevertheless always spot on. If you actually bother to read party reports, he is the one DJ that consistently gets commended for his mising ability.
Once you see him play live you will most likely change your mind. |

Honestly...tunes such as crush and buena aventura seem like they were rushed and quikly put together.
in my opinion today paul van dyk is nothing but just another tiesto....riding the wave of past achievements.
with the surplus of dj's in the scene maybe some should just stick to production....because obviously someone needs to look at the past and remember dat today's garbage aint gonna lead him no where but straight to the gutter.....with such artists as james holden and gabriel and dresden and leama and mooor perfecting out tunes and bootlegs

coming from someone that lives in texas you probably havnt seen a good pvd set.
go see paul in ny & germany for a 6+ hour set and tell me he sucks.

I went to both the parties and they were both pretty ty. :p haha... j/k. but seriously though, i have no doubt that pvd can make awesome tracks. i think the tracks that pvd makes now are more for his fans and the people that see him inside at clubs. its true that crush, time of our lives, nothing but you, dont have the same intricate artistry his older works had, but when u listen to that on a banging club system all you can do is dance. the basslines etc. are so moving and addicting. pvd wants us to dance!!!! |

I dont think he is falling or crashing or starting to suck just because he is trying something different, he's always had good and bad stuff just like everyone else, and u can't really tell how much effort one is putting into their music unless you are there with them |
