FIrst i must say...paul van dyk is a mixing genious. Love da guy's ability to get a crowd off its feet and into a frenzy. The guy never has failed to make the crowd dance. However he has always been known to be an arrogrant dude. Now lets look at his recent productions vs his old. neone miss columbia? avenue? remix of tilt-rendevous? tell me why? WHo misses the paul van dyk who put effort into his productions?

not the paul van dyk of today who just meshs rehashs of old re-edits with the same hat/kick

His productions from the best yrs will never be surpassed by his lackluster efforts of today.
Honestly...tunes such as crush and buena aventura seem like they were rushed and quikly put together.

in my opinion today paul van dyk is nothing but just another tiesto....riding the wave of past achievements.

with the surplus of dj's in the scene maybe some should just stick to production....because obviously someone needs to look at the past and remember dat today's garbage aint gonna lead him no where but straight to the gutter.....with such artists as james holden and gabriel and dresden and leama and mooor perfecting out tunes and bootlegs

peace....

IMO some of his best last work was around the period of his remix of I Feel You...shame it isn't being released.

Yeah I miss the old PvD, just as I miss the old Tiesto and the old Ferry, but people change, musical tastes evolve, and...well...the glory days of old won't be recreated, ever again. It's sad, but oh well - what can be done about it>

its not about the year the tune was done, if the tune is good, its good. the year does not mean anything to the production.

Paul Van Dyk -Words For Love (Original Mix)> all his recent

dat tune is pure ownage.....why cant his art today be this calculated and thought out?

*sigh*

im done ranting

I agree. I listen to Paul's sets from 1998 or so and his productions stand out as the highlights of the set, artistically beyond the rest of the material and well ahead of its time. How amazing his singles sounded then compared to other tracklist selections still amazes me.

But today his productions just sort of sit as regular fodder beside the rest. They are hopelessly stuck in the mold of the sound that made him famous, and have even declined from that level. Whether this is a mainstream marketing tactic or genuine artistic bankruptcy, I do not know. I suspect it's the former, though; people don't simply lose talent like that, and I believe Paul still has such ability in him.

I'm holding out until Mayday. If he fu*ks up Mayday, it will be a real blow to my great respect for the guy. He has the material and ability to make it a career defining moment once again. The question is whether he will.

THE ISSUE here is time

as time passes it seems like he puts less and less effort

compare words for love with all his recent ??

omg dat tune made me go into a diff state of mind

THE HIGHLIGHT of tranceport by oakenfold was words for love...

the sleeper hit of the album in my opinion.
i remember i even cried to that tune's perfection and sheer emotion behind it.
TOday i listen to paul van dyk-buena aventura and i can only cry to the effort put in it

Valid point. PvD is having a downperiod at the moment, especially productionwise(which is why I don't bother with his productions much nowadays), but I always enjoy his sets, so I will keep seeing him when I have the chance, and I look forward to the day when he stops his pop flirt and goes back to the style he had back in the golden days. But what do you mean by "his own productions in his mixes"? :conf:

Not really. If it hadn't been for Crush's awful saw riff and Buenaventuras rather dull melody, I'd say they were both quite good tunes. I also liked Time Of Our Lives, but I guess the vocals are what turns most people off.

I beg to differ. PvD is nowhere near the half-assed popstar attitude that Tiesto is showing off in his sets and in general nowadays. I'll admit that Tiesto has the edge on Paul productionwise though. However, that's mainly due to the fact that he has had loads of help from the likes of Geert Huinink and Sean Deason.

You're obviously just another trance turned prog head, so why bother with PvD at all? And do you realize how ironic it is that you've placed G&D in here as an example of productions not sounding the same and going into the gutter?

I wouldn't consider playing at Innercity, Sensation, Ultra, Mysteryland, Nature One, Mayday & Central Park being a downfall...

Some of them are the best parties the world has to offer :o
