Love it. He plays it well. I personally wish he would try to make some of his own techno, as was hinted at in the Columbia EP. Or some techy-melodic crossover stuff like A Different Journey to Vega. The PvD remix of Crush was actually rather good in this regard.

The problem, I'm guessing, is that he's in such an increasingly mainstream position right now that doing so would alienate many newer fans.

any posibility that artists like this? He is probably their best promoter.

When he reworks a song he's not promoting the original, he's promoting his version which will never be released.

As opposed to, uh, spinning your original?

everybody i know bar 1 or two who used to like pvd now think he is sh*t. me included. he used to be my favourite dj but these days he plays far, far too techy and hard...where is the proper trance?

i also agree that he doesnt put as much effort as he was when he was at his peak, same with sasha. they got the skills but cant be ars*ed

as opposed to him not spinning it at all. promotion is promotion. no matter wut remix of a song he plays everyone always sees the original producer's name first then the remix or re-edit in parentheses. if you wouldn't be grateful if he spun a re-edit of ur track, then you are jus bsing.

Sure I would be grateful. But that's not the point. The point is what does reworking an original do for promotion that the original would not have? Paul somehow wouldn't have played a track before adding his kick to it?

Claiming that his reworks "add to the artistic whole of his sets" has a limit. Part of being a good DJ is being able to seamlessly blend various productions into a whole. That job is remarkably easier when you add your own bassline.
