I guess you haven't been watching much CNN recently; if you think that it's simply a few privates that are gonna be taking blame for this you're sadly mistaken. They're talking about system failure leading up to the highest level here.

Not to take this to a higher immoral level, I don't think it's such a bad idea if the Berg video circulates. I mean, sure you won't show it on TV and whatnot. However, if someone wants to see it on the Internet that's fine because they choose if they want to view it or not. If at least some of us don't see it, Berg would just be another number added to the list of casualities of the war. But (not to be immoral as I said before) by viewing his death people who aren't in the war get a firsthand look at one of many deaths of Americans in Iraq over the past year, even though this one is far more gruesome. It helps to engender sympathy for the troops.

That's true. It's selective on the internet. It's just that my personal feelings dictate that viewing such a death is disrespectful becuase you're exacerbating the situation. Its hard for me to explain, I just feel that the video shouldn't be shwon to everyone.

Please do not post the video or any links to the video of this tragic event on TA.
Just think of his family and friends in thier time of loss.

I know that this is one event out of many over the globe which is tragic and wrong but we should respect the dead and his family in just the same way we should respect any innocent person who is killed unjustly.

If you must watch the video i am sure u are capable of finding it yourselves on the web.

George H.W. Bush, who initially gave Saddam much of his WMDs, explains why he didn't invade Iraq in 1991:

Excerpt from page 489 of Geroge HW Bush and Scowcroft's book, A World Transformed (Alfred A. Knopf, 1998).

quote:

While we hoped that popular revolt or coup would topple Saddam, neither the U.S. nor the countries of the region wished to see the breakup of the Iraqi state. We were concerned about the long-term balance of power at the head of the Gulf. Trying to eliminate Saddam, extending the ground war into an occupation of Iraq, would have violated our guideline about not changing objectives in midstream, engaging in "mission creep," and would have incurred incalculable human and political costs. Apprehending him was probably impossible. We had been unable to find Noriega in Panama, which we knew intimately. We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq. The coalition would instantly have collapsed, the Arabs deserting it in anger and other allies pulling out as well. Under those circumstances, furthermore, we had been self-consciously trying to set a pattern for handling aggression in the post-cold war world. Going in and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the U.N.'s mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion route, the U.S. could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land. It would have been a dramatically different--and perhaps barren--outcome.

Scroll down to read a TIME article also by HW Bush and Scowcroft:

It's too bad W didn't ask his father for advice before invading.
