I remember there being a play where a Portuguese shot was cleared "off the line". I thought it was in, but unfortunately no replays were shown and the English commentators/analysts didn't mention it again.

It certainly wasn't in, I'm pretty sure there was a replay at the time as well because it was Cole made the clearance (a low header off the line) and the commentators were going on about how good he'd been. I was surprised it wasn't shown after the game though, although it happened in extra time and there were a lot of talking points at the end of the game for them to cover. Maybe there's a video of that on the net as well?

about he being 'unprofessional', you do know refs ocasionally make unintentional mistakes?

ah yes, of course they makes mistakes. But how can any honest referee admit to seeing the play clearly when he was over 30 yards away? he did not even consult the linesman, who was clearly flabergasted that Mires called it back. It seems very, very suspicious to many of us. All Campbell and Terry were doing was going for the ball..by the time Terry was coming down and had his hand on Ricardo's shoulder, the ball was already in the bloody net!

How any of you Portuguese fans can feel that you really beat England is beyond me.

ok..this should finish with all english whining about that "disallowed" goal

quote:
Decision defended
It followed Meier's much-debated decison to disallow an England goal in the dying stages of last Thursday's UEFA EURO 2004™ quarter-final against Portugal. Both UEFA Referees' Committee chairman Volker Roth and vice-chairman Ken Ridden defended the decision by Meier to annul Sol Campbell's header.

That is to save face. They will always stand behind their refs. His own reffing linesman disagreed with him. SO it proves nothing except that UEFA is biased. Portugal got screwed 4 years ago and now they have made up for it. Basically they are even now.

if you read the complete article, you'll learn that they did a special press meeting were they explained the reasons it was disallowed..i wouldn't think the press would buy this argument "well, it was disallowed to get portugal even"..
