left around 11:30am today (friday) and got home around 3pm..... had to make lots of stops. I can't bring too much to mind as for reviewing, so i'll write more later, but i really wanna start this review off by saying....

WEMF 2004 PWND ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!

If I had to describe WEMF 2004 in 3 words, I would say - 'WEMF was fun'. Nothing more, nothing less. I was only there friday night and until 9PM saturday, so opinions of others might differ drastically from mine(I did miss the main saturday night party)

Friday's night party at main 4x4 stage was hm.. quite boring. Half the people never even made it to the main stage, and chilled in their tents all night. And those who did make to the stage didn't appear to be in the dancing mood. The venue was about half full, yet still really hot and humid.(I can only imagine how bad it got on saturday). We came to the venue as Chris Liberator was just starting his set. BORING. Really hard and didn't go anywhere. Madam Zu was up next. Some say she was good, I thought she was boring. D:Fuse was up next. Played mostly prog. Didn't like him either, though the last 30 mins of his set was decent. Scot Project up next. Finally my craving for hard trance was satisfied. Scot Project played an great set. Got me dancing like a maniac. Even got some of the people dancing. After Scot Project it was Kenny Glasgow's turn - and he was pretty damn good. After Kenny, SOS - not bad either. Returned to camp site around 7:30AM.

Chilled with everyone until around 1PM, and then all us TOTAs went to the New Talent stage. Dennis opened with a great trance set. Then Ray and Kevin made their successfull debut. NuEra kicked ass as well, really like your style ! At 6PM it was Schryer's turn, and he continued ass kicking with some pounding Hard Trance/Techno.

We left around 9:30PM on Saturday to go to Ultra Spin 5.

Overall it was fun. Music and the party on friday could've been much better, but I guess people were saving themselves for saturday night. I was impressed with the organization of the party.

It was great hanging out with all the TAs. Hope you all had fun on saturday !

This was my first WEMF. I had an excellent time, such a different party atmosphere than a club.

Got there around 6:30 on Friday, went to the main stage to check out Mark Olliver at 9, stayed there til the end of Scot Project's set around 6:30. D-fuse really impressed me, and as always MO layed down a great set. Murder was the Bass hit me about the same time as the mushrooms did, wow, excellence! No one else really impressed me much that night, but good times anyhow. The room was really humid and really hot, but it was so cold outside that it wasn't too much of a problem.

Tried to sleep, but my tent was roasting by about 9:00, drove into the beach for 1, stayed til 3, got soooo sunburned!! Back to mainroom for Deko-ze, set of the weekend up to that point. Murder was the Bass again ... gave me so much energy, and Global Phases - I was really hoping Jon the Dentist would be there, but Deko-ze got my fill in for me!! Dr Trance and OS/2 came on and played a "10 years of WEMF" set ... anthems from the past 10 years. Wow, that set owned me. Dancing my ass off in the back corner near the open door. But the lack of sleep caught up to me as Dave the Drummer came on, so had to head out for a little more sleep. Back for Johan at 1:30 ... this guy was unreal. He's into the crowd, playing sweet tracks ... Murder was the Bass again!!! He builds then tears it down like no one else. Motorcycle was fun, but a lot less energy than Johan (and from what I heard LAB 4 had built up). John 00 Flemming rocked me out, good way to end my WEMF, left around 6:30 to get some sleep ... wasn't happening so I left around 7, back in Oshawa around 9.

I will be at next WEMF for sure, an excellent time. Best time!

WEMF was amazing - murdered last year obviously, I had such a sick time with my friends, and the vibe was amazing. True the music was boring friday night, but that was more of a chill night. It really picked up in the early evening on sat.

Nuera ROCKED the TA talent tent, and it was so chill to be outside sittin on the grass listening to amaizng trance while everyone is bobbing to the beats. All the sound systems were top notch, and the lighting in the 2 main stages were incredible.

For me WEMF is an experience that goes beyond the DJs and music stages, its the chillin with cool people, meeting new friends, and knowing that everyone who was there was there for the same reason. because WEMF is the best party in Ontario.
Matt
Incredible. Simply incredible. Best party I've attended yet.

Friday night was good. I ended up having a ty set on the new talent stage. I will not say it's all due to technical problems... in the end I wasn't happy with my track selection, and I did a lot of stupid, panicky things while mixing. But if you were there, you are probably aware of all the technical stuff that went wrong. Just bad luck I guess. All the DJs I saw perform at the tent had some difficulty with the setup, and we're playing to their full potential. Maybe next year... make it INDOORS (cuz of the wind) and with a simpler mixer. An Allen & Heath Xone 464 isn't ideal for that tent.

But in the end, I was happy I was able to spin at WEMF, and it was definitely a learning experience. Hopefully I can try again next year :)

So, because I was kind of wrapped around my set that night, I wasn't really in the mood to party my ass of just yet. I hung around backstage on the 4/4 stage for awhile, chilling with Mark Oliver, Jelo, Madam Zu, etc. Too bad Lou Cypher didn't show. I went to bed just before Scot Project... unfortunate, but I just wasn't feeling the harder stuff.

Saturday was fun. Went to the water with Aren, Andrew, Barry and Jordy. That was kind of fun, we just hung around a rocky area throwing stones in and talking about music. This brings me to the only real failure of WEMF: shuttle buses. In short: we walked to the water, because waiting around for the shuttle bus seemed it would take forever. Also, earlier today, when I was waiting for my ride to Collingwood at the gate, I witnessed something very poor. A HUGE group of people were waiting for the shuttle back to Toronto. They had just loaded a bus to THE , and the security guy turned around and told this group of like 100 the next bus would be @ 4. It was 1:40. And the 4:00 bus was the last shuttle going back to Toronto... so I dunno how they got those 100s of people on. Next year: more shuttle buses.

Saturday night: HOLLLLLYYYYYY SHIIIIIT!!!! What a night. Deko-Ze ing tore the place up. Then a massive 10-year anniversary set from Dr. Trance and OS/2. Mixing was a little rough, but the tracks were so amazing to hear on a big system. Urban Train just brought the place to total euphoria, and it is a moment I will always remember. After a quick breather, I came back for the last half hour of Lab4. THESE GUYS ARE HARDCORE. Not my usual style of music, I was definitely digging it. These guys love their music, and it shows. I would see these guys again for sure. That remix of 'The Perfect Drug' was just dynamite. The whole place was rocking so hard, I couldn't believe it.

Then came Gielen. It was my first time seeing Gielen, and it was just...ok. The first half hour was really boring, as he did his usual scratching/effect loop/live remix type deal. Hearing the Txitarro remix of In Silence was nice (I dropped it the day before in my set).. but why do so many DJs feel the need to around with this buildup? Gielen did a weird extended breakdown with the acapella of Are You Sleeping?... and it was really boring and annoying at times. Once Gielen got over his turntablism orgy and got down to business, I started digging it. The Southern Sun remix and Breathing (Breaks Dub) were killer. Nothing great, but not terrible. Just meh.

Then Motorcycle... well, not really. I wasn't sure how this would be done. In the end, it was just Jes singing over dubs. Gabriel & Dresden weren't there. Tracks were Deep Breath Love, Imagination, Around You (TUNNNNEEE!), As the Rush Comes. Jes has a quality voice, and did an excellent job. In the end, I thought the whole thing was kind of corny. Gabriel & Dresden needed to be there... maybe do a set after, or mix in Motorcycle tracks with a one hour set and have Jes sing? Oh well, I dunno. Around You was awesome tho.

NOW BRING ON J00F! Awesome set! I missed a few bits to go cool down outside. But I was there for the most part, and what an awesome show he put on. Kept me moving the whole time, and there was lots of beautiful moments.

Then I went to bed, woke up, packed, came home. What a weekend. While it wasn't perfect, it was still REALLY incredible. The venue was AWESOME. There was always plenty of room to dance, but it still felt like it was crammed in there when the buildups came and hands were in the air. It was a little humid... but come on, that hangar is usually a PETTING ZOO for the county fair, it's not built for hundreds of people dancing their asses off. I think the fog machines were unncecessary and added to the humidity... maybe we don't need them. Lighting and sound was awesome in all 3 main tents. Volume level was perfect. I thought I was in a finely tuned club!

The crowd was also awesome. Everybody was there for music and the vibe was just awesome. A few people with whistles, but when asked them to stop, they did.

And finally, the shoutouts:

Motorcycle is JES!!!! not the other guys. its like Madonna deal. She sings so its hers. they just produced it (Well she WROTE the lyrics and some of the melody's to it, also in Around You, she is the one playing the guitar). to bring dave and josh in would be sorta silly....sorry she is just a REALLY wicked girl and i dont enjoy hearing some of the stuff. no hard feelings. Shes back in TO in late Aug...24th or 28th. Not sure yet.

don't get me wrong, I thought Jes was great, she did everything she could have done... but there wasn't really anything special about it. And IMHO, Josh and Dave are just as much a part of Motorcycle as Jes.

This was by far the best wemf i have been to ever. venue was quality, better than bobcaygeon and miles better than the tweed garbage dump. i liked the floor in the main room, smooth concrete is great to dance on. the humidity was pretty bad tho. my favorite set of the weekend was a toss between dave the drummer, gielen, J00F, or os/2 / dr trance. scot project kinda disapointed me a bit. but what he lacked, the blue thumbs and green cherries made up for :P

i didnt sleep till sunday morning at about 10 am. the goa/psy trance was amazing on a hippy flip.

i would like to give a shoutout to the TA's who supplied me with a way to cook my corn on the cob.......i was craving it hard all weekend.

Nrg2Nfinit - partying with karim is always a unique experience

all the new TA's i met this weekend

and the whole lot of people that were camped around us who kindly let me chill with them at their camp fire when the mushrooms became a little too potent

the music was great, the people were great, the security staff were s but other than that i had an amazing time

thats all for now

i need to catch up on 3 days sleep

later
