first time I nabbed a chainsaw was about 1/4 thru the game... which is a few hours in (5-6?) |

You still got a ways to get until hell (the coolest part of the game and the most visually stunning)
You still gotta do the monorail stuff (I think) plus the delta labs. |

i think i got mine before the monorail. i got curious and went into this room then i picked up the chaingun and randomly the room came alive and all these beats with chainsaws came out of nowhere. freaked me out. theres a heck of a lot of game after that though. that was not even halfway through |

| to whoever's saying that they're looking forward to half life 2 because doom 3 sucked and was overhyped...what makes you think that half life 2 wont get overhyped and end up disappointing you as the release date gets closer and closer? |

| Alright, my multiplayer is messed up. Just about any time I try to enter a server, it asks for a password (even though I have a filter set to NOT show passworded servers) or says the server is full (which is crap since I tried to enter 10 different servers with only 1 person each, and it said it was full EVERYTIME). Is this happening to anyone else? |

Yea... i agree with some comments on this board, the game is extremely overhyped. I got sick of playing it during the lecture @ uni for an hour. Yea, i agree that graphics look excellent, and there's a satisfactory immensitity between the graphics and sound to create an 'scary environment'. But if you FPS games regularly, just expect the sorta walk around, get weapons, shoot those mops up :s.
The gameplay isn't revolutionary, it's really static and linear, You'll get bored playin' it. This is just another 'upgrade your computer to the highest standard possible and waitin' to be dissappointed' genre of FPS games :happy2: |

The biggest things missing I think are outdoor environments which make other games seem better and more grand. What I liked about half life was that you would be in a building but then be outside thinking you will escape, only to be stuck once again inside the buildings. Same was true with unreal(although it wasn't a great game) and far cry which mixed indoor and outdoor elements quite well.
I think they were trying to get to the roots of FPS games in Doom 3 hence why there is no secondary fire, double jumps, items to use, complicated inventory, etc. I still think its a good game though, but not only my top 10 list. |

I think they've killed the hype over HL2 when all that hacker news broke out. I've already saw what the game looks like and it lives up to the hype. The environment is massive and graphics are beautiful.
I just wish the damn game would release already, I've had it pre-ordered for 2 years now. |
