| So Phelp's dream record for 8 gold medals in the pool is over as the South African's take gold in the 4x100 freestyle swim and US finished third behind Netherlands :( Now the best he can do is 7 golds but I doubt that will happen. :) |

Hehe, last olympics, sweden kinda sucked and everyone who were supposed to take gold missed it, and so suddenly a day some totally unknown guy took gold in some totally unknow shooting sport... and suddenly that guy was a national hero... lol... and the number of kids who started to shoot increased by like 5000% or something :p
don't know why you would be interested in knowing that but i thought i might share :p
btw, my mum was in the swedish national team in shooting some 300 years ago :toocool: so no about shooting, best sport ever :stongue: |
So true how a single person can influence so many young people into learning a sport... Look at Nadia Comaneci's influence on Romanian gymnastics... still being felt almost 30 years later.

I alwasy wondered how a country like Canada, so rich and Multicultural, fails to do well in the olympics.
maybe we need to starve the athletes alittle? |

Because as someone once said in the other thread we're all about the hockey, the beer, and the herb
Although we have such great athletes, our government is absolutely PATHETIC when it comes to supporting sports, and especially amateur ahtletes such as Olympians. :whip: All nations that excel at sports have terrific programs...look at the US, Russia, Australia and etc...we have NOTHING...shame shame shame :whip: Not to mention our horrible broadcasting that IMO puts too much pressure and overconfidence in athletes and when they lose stupid questions like - "what went wrong" :whip: And where is the sports psychology that seems so successful with the other nations...UGH...i'm frustrated. Our government needs to wake up, it's not a secret that most our Olympic athletes are under the poverty line :( :whip: |

the guvernment is the obvious answer everyone would give. i think we should start looking in the mirror and take a good look at ourselves and our nature. we have always been a very passive people and i just dont get the feeling we really have the killer instincts by nature needed to win. With a couple of exceptions we really dont seem to be a competitive people. Its good and its bad. we are a nonviolent, non-agressive, tolerant and understanding people and i am very proud of that. but we do suck at sports |
