With a couple of exceptions we really dont seem to be a competitive people. Its good and its bad. we are a nonviolent, non-agressive, tolerant and understanding people and i am very proud of that. but we do suck at sports

That's very true but I would still stand firm by my comment, all powerhouse nations in sport have huge government programs for the development of their athletes...we unfortunately don't have anything similar here, and it's very sad for a highly skilled and developed nation like us. I don't think Australians are in particuarly aggressive, violent, or any different than us for that matter...and look at them go ;)

We're just a little too crazy about hockey  which is cool, i like it too, but we should invest in other things as well :D

should we? I think few people would disagree more government funding would improve our results. I think Australia's dramatic improvements prove this. But whether we SHOULD spend that public money on sports is another question. More money on sports means you're going to pay for it out of your pocket. And if you're going to spend it, why not spend invest it in the community. For programs to help chilren in difficult positions or something. Theres alot of people that need the money more than athletes. I dont know though.. maybe a bit more funding for the sake of national pride would be justified.

but you are right.. there is no doubt more funding would help our chances. (but i think i have a point too, canada did cut back the number of athletes this year because it saw too many people there just to participate)

Yeah we are GOOD at winter sports but I think we went down in terms of success last time around, I'm sure they could do a lot better :)

Well different websites and polls count it differently...some places say it's according to who has the most golds, and some say its totals...I personally would go by totals but who am I :p

Australia is way up there too...so it's mostly China, USA, Australia, and Russia that are battling...it's only day 3 thouugh so we'll wait and see :D
