I just realized how many athletes Canada has sent to these Olympic Games...over 400...and how many of them have actually won something. What's really embarrasing though is not the fact that they are doing bad but the fact that nations with much smaller delegations, and much less recognition in sports are doing better. Our delegation was by far one of tbe biggest ones but we have nothing to show for it thus far...I really hope things improve in the upcommming days though.

Another thing that I had to comment about after watching some of the US broadcasting on NBC, and I can't believe I am about to say this, but our Canadian broadcasting has surpased the US in the cheese factor by far. US is always known for being cheesy, flamboyant and highly patriotic when it comes to their performances, but I hardly see any of that so far. On the other hand those sepcial CBC features about our athletes are SO cheesy, SOOO promising they just make me laugh. And they make our athlete's disapointments seem much bigger than they actually are. They also hype up their opportunities beyond all possibility, and when our athetes fail - they make it seem even more disapointing than it is. I don't know i'm just frustrated with this stupid "special features" the advertising, and all the hype. I mean the US is flamboyant at times but at least they have the right to be - they are winning so much...bah.

We have a lot more opportunites for medals of course but once again our broadcasting drives me nutts. :wtf:

Canada is clearly an embarassment. We have countries that are much smaller than us and the per capita GDP is like $100 beating us out in medals. Shows the poor shape our infrastructure for supporting canadian athletes is.

You know I was watching one of those CBC specials about a Canadian swimmer who immigrated to Canada, won 2 golds in LA i think, carried the flag...and after he retired he couldn't find a job in Canada...:wtf: :wtf: :wtf: So...he went to work and coach in Australia...I don't think I need to tell anyone how good Australia is in the pool

for goodness sakes North Korea still has more medals than us .. that and a lotta our 'medal hopefuls' are starting to bow out..

i think Canada is also the only country in history to host an Olympic games and not win a Gold medal during those games (Montreal 1976)..

embarassing indeed .. :(

it's 266.

and why the heck are you all putting our country down. any of you in the olympics? any of you ever come close? seriously.

so what if there are no medals. the this is that some people came close like the kayaker, 4 place. the swimmer showed his best time ever, beat his own record. how do you think they feel when all of canada is just thinking about medal count. they look at the news and read the internet there too.

Brian Williams brought this point up while he was talking to Mark Tewksbery after our mens 4x200 relay failed to medal. Mark was mentioning how many of our athletes focus on beating their personal bests as a goal. this is fine, but then consider that other countries using Olympic and world records as a benchmark. They were even talking about how the 'world was getting better' on CBC once and I couldn't help but to think that Canada shouldn't be left behind.

i'm not putting our athletes down, i just think that they deserve much better. there's no reason why they can't be just as successful if not moreso than other countries of our stature.

266??? So there are more coaches and trainers then athletes then??

close is close...but close doesn't cut it...try telling it to the kayaker who was aiming for the podium...do you think he's satisfied with a 4th place finish? Last time i checked he was really pissed off. And same about the swimmers.
There was only one or two swimmers that really did well...and apparently 0 out of 6 on the first day reached their personal best and nobody qualified anywhere beyond the first round. Hell even our own atheletes are bashing themselves for lack of success...

Alright well let's leave swimming...we're not so strong with swimming but what about the other sports. Besides i'm not bashing the athletes as much as i'm bashing the "system" and the stupid CBC broadcasting, just read what I wrote about it earlier.

how can they be just as successful with no ing money to train and do well. do you realize what sort of advantages other countries have on us?

lucky they are getting to go at all. canada couldn't support more atheletes so the standards were raised, they still can't support the atheletes that went.

that's my whole point .. it's not about the athletes, but the lack of financial support that they receive

no one here is saying that our athletes suck .. Canada as a country is just capable of so much more
