Give me a break. Replace Bush with Kerry in that statement and vice versa, and add Vietnam, Vietnam, Vietnam to the list and you'll have the Democratic National Convention. As McCain said earlier today, it's a unique double standard that the Democrats can talk about 9/11 and the war on terror all they wish, but the second Republicans talk about it they are villified.
On another note, I remember hearing an uproar because Fox News didn't give "enough" coverge to the DNC. How about no major network (other than the news organizations and CSPAN) picking up the RNC? Doesn't sound so biased to you now, does it?
Maybe we should all hold off judgement until we've heard a few more speakers than those the first day that are meant to "rally the troops," so to speak. If I remember correctly, the first day of the DNC convention wasn't exactly ground breaking. |

Welcome to the new age of Bushism, this is all that we hear on a daily basis from this administration, hey can't argue with his "catastrophic success" "we can't win the war on terror" but we'll keep pointing our tanks and guns at other nations to solve our issues, take the fight to them in Iraq, etc, etc, etc. I am beyond contempt and disgust any longer. America has become a sick, sad, world of idiocracy, spins, fallacies and inept leadership from the top on down since 9/11 and the Iraq war summed it all up. A catastrophic sucess indeed Georgie Boy. All I can do is shake my head and wonder where we are heading as a nation. |

You must seriously fail to realize that it is not simply about talking about Septempber 11th, but could it be utilized any further for the actions of the Republican government than it already has been. I as a New Yorker don't appreciate seeing anyone attempt to draw on such sentiments to score political points repeatedly over and over again. Not one person in Iraq had anything connected to September 11th. Do you think that it is any coincidence that the U.S. draws much more flack for the Iraq "catastrophic success" than the Afghanistan campaign. Many of the agendas of the conservative wing of the Republican party will never see the light of day in this great nation. They pulled off one Iraq but never again.
If extreme liberals are not representative of American beliefs and ideals then neither is ultra conservative ideologies either. Americans are simply much slower to wake up to the realities of the Bush administration. Bush can have all the belief in God that he wants but save that for his private life, I can care less, the bible belt doesn't run this nation. |

It's a "W", moron. (For George "W" - do I really need to explain that around here?) I guess you're just bitter because Giuliani gave a convention speech that outshone anything the Democrats put forward.
The line about Kerry's flip-flops was outstanding, and will probably be one of the main sound bites from the speech. "Maybe this explains John Edwards' need for two Americas — one where John Kerry can vote for something, and another where he votes against the same thing." The segment on the history of terrorism was spot on as well. It helps to remind people that there was no effective international response after the major terrorist incidents of the last 30 years, unless America or Israel was leading the charge.
Re 9/11: the Democrats talk all they want about what they would have done differently, so the Republicans aren't allowed to talk about what they actually did? I don't think so. Giuliani was under the towers on 9/11, Bush was there three days later consoling families and lifting spirits for hours. It is their right to talk about it.
But this was only day one. Those who think this will be an "all war" convention will be sorely disappointed. Each day has a different theme. Enjoy, my friends! It was one hell of a great first day. And it's gonna get better. |

I see. So you're saying that the Republicans should not discuss the single most defining event in the first four years of Bush's presidency. Interesting. So on that note, Kerry shouldn't use Vietnam the way he is either. After all many people were killed in Vietnam, and we wouldn't want to use the sentiments this country still holds onto after Vietnam to gain political points, would we? The double standard is killing me. Kerry can go on about being a war hero in the face of an American tragedy, but when Bush even mentions 9/11 and his actions during it, he's just playing politics. |

First of all- Vietnam was a WAR not a Terrorist attack- I do believe there is a slight difference.
All you hear out of these idiots of negative jides and blah blah blah sept 11. You wont hear Bush mention 9/11 once though. He'll let his minions do all that because they were actually THERE and it's ok for them to do it.
How many times was Bush's name actually mention at the DNC?
All you hear last night is Kerry this- Kerry that- AGAIN deflecting from the RNC's lack of direction and lets just hope we can make everyone paranoid enough so we dont have to bring up ideas and future plans attitude.
Do this really look like a man of "courage" or a man who just pissed his pants because he doesnt know what to do?

Why is it that I hate these threads, yet I still come back to read them?
Anyone see the article on the Kerry and Bush daugheters on CNN/Drudge? Its funny how CNN suggests Bush's daughters were booed, yet Drudge says it was Kerry's...
Anyways, about the RNC. It is expected that the speeches that any guest speaker gives will get flame for it. The thing that gets me is the protestors outside who punch delegates, undercover officers, and disrupt the city by causing traffic and in result other complications.
If you would, look at these nutcases on www.a31.org.
7pm: We will converge on Madison Square Garden. Inside the Garden, the Republicans are holding a dog and pony show, fueled by corporate dollars. Outside, where the barricades end, real democracy begins. Where ever these barricades end, we will create "free speech zones." These will be places where we can express our outrage, where we can create the kind of world we want to see through music and free food and dancing and debate. We will not be asking for permits to create these zones. If we are asked to move, we will sit down and refuse.
What the hell is this?
Better get the tear gas ready |
