all i'm saying is getting your tunes out there can't hurt.... having a remix by dj tiesto (who is definitely respected in the edm world) can only help radiohead and madonna gain popularity...and while it may not be in the pop world, it may be in the edm world... no one ever compared their records sold to tiesto's...only you did. now get off your high horse.

i still dont get your point? Madonna doesnt need to gain popularity, she is already popular. Plus shes already done a load of work with William Orbit & Sasha, who are actually respected in the EDM scene, unlike tiesto - he may be popular, but his fanbase are the 14-18 year olds mainly. |

ok well then how about its not gonna hurt their fan base. if anything it would be some free money for the music label and artist...why not? they are just being stupid... |

I dont think they are. I cant speak for madonna but I wouldnt want any old fool remixing my tracks, Felix da Housecat - fine, Sasha - fine, Bt - fine, tiesto - not fine. Its quite simple. |

It's got to be more complicated than that. If you are selling a remix of someone elses track regardless of what it says on the label, it has to be some form of copyright infringement. You can't even broadcast an artist's music publicly without having to pay an organization like ASCAP or BMI that compensates the artists. By releasing white labels with the hopes to sell them, you are cutting out the original artist compensation. Maybe the reason why artists don't get busted is because with a white label they could play dumb and claim it wasn't them behind the remix and pressing the white labels. |

| So I'm seeing both support for and against Whitelabels. What's my take on it? Whitelables have always existed, and will always exist. It's a way to get tracks out to the public. There are always going to be unauthorized remixes being put out on whitelabels whether you like it or not. |

| well leama & moor put out their bootys on white, so maybe tiesto just got inspired, fair enough I guess, the labels fault for not jumping on the remix and making money out of it themselves....pvd should do this with born slippy, make jbo realise just how much their missing, cashwise. |

Not true .. i know someone who used to be quite good friends with the guy responsible for JPS Vs. Paul van Dyk bootleg that used the Rachel McFarlane vocal. Originally he only got a very small quantity pressed before someone went on to bootleg his bootleg .. before he knew it he had Vandit's lawyers breathing down his neck and found himself trying to explain that he wasn't responsible for all of the copies floating around.
The type of label something gets pressed on doesn't matter .. you're still putting it out there to make profit. It could be a white or it could be like a normal release but at the end of the day if you don't own the copyrights or have permission to use the material it's still illegal.
I'm not condoning the use of white labels .. i have plenty of them myself. I just feel that a name on Tiesto's scale doing something like this is pretty unprofessional and doesn't set a good example for all those below him. |
