Ontario BANS Smoking!! (pg. 3)

I don't understand why they'd remove designated smoking areas/rooms. It's fairly simple.. If you don't smoke/don't like smoke then don't go in those areas, right?

I am a non smoker for the record...

you, and the Ontario government.

Sure it was fair that they banned smoking in bars/clubs/casinos but banning smoking in outdoor enclosed patios is just ridiculous.

I rarely smoke, and when I do, there is no ing way I am going out into the FREEZING cold of Toronto winters to have a cigarette. And don't give me this "don't smoke a cigarette then" bull, because the rare time I want to have a smoke, I'm going to, and I should be able to do so without freezing my ass off.

Sure the previous anti smoking legislation was justified because in the past non smokers were being forced to inhale smoke, but this new legislation is purely "for our own good". Give me one good reason why enclosed outdoor smoking patios is a bad idea.

If this legislation gets passed, I guess I am just going to just have to be one of those s who smoke inside bars/clubs. I don't really give a if it bothers you. If it does, blame the government who implemented this stupid legislation, not the very casual smoker who doesn't want to freeze his ass off in -40 degree weather. :whip: :whip: :whip:

Meh, I still say them.

Smoking and pot will eventually be on the same level, except for explicit legality. Smoking will never be made 100% illegal, just as pot will never be made 100% legal. I forsee them both eventually meeting at the point where they are both tolerated in personal space alone...

I never thought of it like that, but I completely agree.

Why do non-smokers like this law? I don't understand.

Well, some of the clubs deserve to get burned because their designated smoking rooms are a joke - they're not ventilated at all, you walk in there and it's like you've stepped into a burning building. And I know you know exactly what I'm talking about, Greenhorn.

But if they've actually done their job and created a properly ventilated smoking area (which is the exception, not the rule) then yeah, it's ridiculous to force people not to smoke anyway.

Maybe the government's logic is not the same as my own, but the way I see it, ever since Toronto passed the original smoke-free bylaw, individuals and business owners alike have done nothing but try to find ways to circumvent the legislation. Just look at all the crap that Jay has posted on it - trick after trick, excuse after excuse. There's been a lot of flagrant disregard for the law in this area, so it kind of makes sense that the government would be tightening the legislation.

I'm just explaining it from a legislative point of view though. I realize that a total ban would probably hurt businesses and I don't really think that it makes sense or that it's even remotely possible to enforce.

I'm from Windsor, On. And all we have are bars/clubs & a Casino, our entire downtown area is covered with young American teenagers (as my father puts it) on the weekend. if this smoking law goes through our downtown scene will become a ghost-town, although there will be no Americans which would be a plus...

I am a none smoker!

k so this means in teh winter, each time we want to go for a smoke we will hav to get our coats from coatcheck, thencome back in and pay the coatcheck fare again???niiiiiice:rolleyes:

i think smokers(such as myself) are well aware of the risks of first hand and second hand smoke and thats why we are accepting of the rule as of june 1st. this is just ridiculous.

I cant wait for them to pass a law stating smoking outside ur own home is banned.

No, it just means you smoke inside. I will be protesting this law by lighting up cancer sticks and comitting lung cell genocide inside clubs/bars. The worst I've had happen is "could you please put that out sir?". "why certainly!" *waits* *spark* Problem solved.
