not downtown but slightly uptown my mom's friend owns a really cool bistro called state and allen. it's just the intersection the restaurant is located on...but they have really great food.

there's also mockingbird station, which is a little north of downtown off 75. they have a really good independent film center called the angelika, and they have some cool shops- urban outfitters, virgin megastore, etc. it's a cool place to take family. there's some little cafés there too. |
