disc I is 5:45-6:55am
disc II is 7:30-8:15am
umm i dont think that his cd is just made from two specific hours of the night. It is cut to sound that great. All the tunes of the night are peiced together for the cd speciafically.
I dont recall him playing four female vocal tracks in a row.
... but correct me if im wrong... and if i am.... damn!.....
Where was I???? |

i believe its what you see what you get from the club. Ive never known mark to re-engineer a CD unless it was to improve sound quality. And now you know why many of us want mostly 9 hour solo sets instead of the half rate guests that keep getting booked. |

| This is a MUST buy....doesn't matter if it has been re engineered....And even If it has been, will only sound better after the tweaks :) |

(edit - sorry TAs, i didn't realise that mark had put other cds in the guv. so there's a couple new sets floating around. if you hear crowd response, you know you're on the ones i'm talking about. and now *i'd* like to hear the ones sold in the club, which i haven't... hahahaha)
okay here's the dealio with those discs, since you're wondering.
july 2003 i approached mark about making a guv live recording with the patrons miked to really capture the essence of a night at the guvernment. figured it'd make a great keepsake for all of his fans, him, and me. but it took us 'til now to get our acts together and make it happen.
we tried a recording november 6th on the solo night, but were weren't able to put the mics in the proper position and the resultant recording was too reverby for release. some of you guys saw the mics though, even posted about it on TA.
we figured that the oakenfold night would be a good night to try again, this time with proper placement. what you hear is from that night, i assure you. with the exception of the hidden tracks, of course.
as for engineering, there is a lot of post work involved in making a live set sound nice. you can't just slap the mic tracks together with the mixer tracks and expect it to sound good, it doesn't work that way. sounds verby, distorted and all around e. the recordings you hear, on the other hand, are professionally made cds, professionally mixed and mastered for the best possible sound quality for all of us. however, it was important to mark and i that we all listen to something that actually happened, hearing it exactly the way it happend (the mics are open at all times for this reason - if they made noise, you hear 'em). not something padded, cut, or otherwise engineered . it ceases to be documentation at that point and becomes fiction, and that was not the goal at all.
i must admit however, to taking one liberty. on the nov 6th night there was a girl who kept going "yes mark!" (shaniqs' sis?). since we weren't going to use the rest of the night, and we liked her so much, i cut one of her "yes mark!"s out from that night and slapped it at the end of the encores. i couldn't resist, she belongs there, even if she wasn't there. shaniqs, if that really is your sister, thank her.
there will be a proper MP3 release made soon (as soon as i get playlists from mark), and the sets will be on his website soon too. so if you can't locate the cds, sit tight, there'll be high quality mp3s out before you know it (you may be able to find them on soulseek right now). we made this as a gift for all of us, so it's important that everyone get a copy, really. if you opt for the cd route, you'll have the added advantage of really getting to hear the detail in these recordings. it's something else, i assure you.
one thing though, if you have the cds please don't make your own mp3s of them for p2p networks. there is a carefully planned release going on, and it's important that only the ones that i made are out there. thanks.
answer your questions? |
