REVIEW: Satoshi Tomiie @ Boa Redux 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY (pg. 4)

I know my review is a little late, but better late then never.

I got there at about 2am, there was a lineup, but it went quickly.. I was in 5mins later. I was surprised to find the place pretty full at 2am! Went to see the lineup for the coatcheck, and it looked worse than it was. The coat check ladies were processing coats very quickly. Definitely not a repeat of the NYE coatcheck issue. 15 min wait, tops.

Sean was getting the place warmed up nicely. His mixing was pretty flawless and the tunes IMO were good. Although, I must admit that I wouldn't be able to loose my on the dance floor to those kinds of beats. Just a little too boring. Maybe that's because I'm such a trance head.

The smoke pit downstairs was great. The DJ down there was playing a great set. Broken beats, house, funk and soul was the flavor, and he was pulling that off nicely.

4am Satoshi got behind the decks, and he started to tear the place up. Solid mixing, and alot of new tracks that I've never heard before. Got the place grooving quite nicely, and at times blew the roof off the place. Good set. He didn't seem animated though. Stayed put, pretty still, staring down on the mixer. Maybe he did more moving once I left, who knows.

That was the first time I ever saw Satoshi live, and he stayed true to his reputation as a DJ.

The vibe at BOA was AMAZING. Great people, no attitude and very accommodating. People apologized for bumping into you, or stepping on your foot. There was lots more guys than girls which was not that great, but the vibe made up for the lack of ladies.

One thing: I think Boa would be 10 times better if they got a better cooling system upstairs. But if the heat is the only thing I can say about the club, then there is not much to complain about. Boa is amazing overall, and I would withstand that heat any day for such a great club.

Left the club early at 6am. I hate seeing the sunlight when I leave in the AM. Now, I'm at work, wishing it was Saturday again. :tongue2

AHH!! That was you!?!? :eyes: I'm so sorry. Yes, I'm feeling better! Your water helped me alot. ;)

Sean Miller didn't do anything for me. He played a couple cool tracks, but I'm not really into his style of music. Sean, if you are reading this, I hope you understand. Everyone has different taste in music. :)

Satoshie's track selection was amazing. I only recognized 2-3 songs. The rest were a bunch of fresh new tracks that I have never heard before. Alot of his tracks were on the mellow side though, and it sounded like something was missing in his set because of that. The hardest song he played all night was that BLUR song. I forget what it's called, but it's been played by almost every DJ, and I think it's a Junkie XL remix.

My night overall wasn't the best. :( As Chinaman posted, my friend stole his water bottle because I was feeling very nauseated and dizzy. Infact, I almost got sick a few times infront of everyone. The heat in the club wasn't helping at all. I felt like I was in a steam room. My hair went from straight, to curly/frizzy by the end of the night.

****Note to Rony: Now that Boa is a well established club, maybe it's time to invest in a new air conditioning system. If the air would circulate a little more, maybe the costumers would be able to enjoy themselves better, and not get sick the way I did. Also, it kinda sucks to leave the club feeling like you have a thick layer of sweat all over your body. The atmosphere of the club would be so much better if the air was more fresh.

****Note to Jeff: I have the $50 you let me borrow. Come by and pick it up. I can give you Tom's tape too. :)

As for the guestlist, I tried getting on the Club 246 list for free (being sort of put on the free admissions list) only to hear from Erica that "club246 guys screwed her up big time" for that list or whatever, and she couldn't offer the free admission at all. So I'm like "WTF?! Now you tell me..." And regarding the guest list for Boa, I still can't figure out how is the guestlist lineup always longer than the regular lineup, and even tho you get "reduced" cover or whatever everyone that walks into the club pays the same amount. And all that line by-pass? I've been to Boa enough times to figure out it's all bunch of , cuz if you have a few hundred people waiting in guestlist lineup with by-pass entry, what's the point? :D Boa's gotta take care of that somehow...

I heard about this after a couple of buddies bitched about it in the morning:rolleyes: They won free tickets on the radio and then some guest list chick was all like oh Club 246 screwed up the guestlist and they gave them reduced cover to the tune of $5 off as opposed to the promised no line and no cover :stongue: :haha:

Going to stick up for Erica (the door girl), Boa and any guestlist issues. Erica is part of Boa management (she isn't just some ignorant random door chick) and she is VERY clear with people offering guestlist for the club what excatly they can offer. Any problems with g-list are more likely to not be from her end of things. She does very well in a highly stressful situation and is well regarded for her ability to treat everyone fairly and respectfully. If you have problems with guestlist she is very approachable and will listen to your issues.

I'm confused by people who say there's no difference between guestlist and normal line. Guestlist gets you $5 or sometimes $10 off door price, and entrance to the club as soon as they are able. Everyone is searched going into the club (including staff like me) ... so there's going to be a wait when it's busy.

I saw you from far away. I asked RJ if you were "dallastar", and he said yes. I wanted to say hi to you, but to be honest, I was tooooo sick to socialize with anyone. :sadgreen:

Sean Miller was awesome as always and got us off to a good start. Wish I had come earlier so I could have enjoyed more of his set. Satoshi came on at 4 and got off to his usual slow but consistent start. I wasn't too impressed with his track selection this time around but props to him for willing to experiment with new tracks. I hardly recognized any of them and that why he's one of my favorite DJs. He spun a very consistent set with flawless mixing and good flow. For those of you wondering why he wasn't so animated, that's just the way he is. But he's very good at reading the crowd and taking them on a journey.

I ventured into the smoking room a few times where it was much cooler. The house music there was pretty good but I had to get back to the main room (even though it was like a furnace) so that I didn't miss too much of Satoshi's set. It was really nice meeting Little John, Stephanie and psyrel for the first time. Hope to see you guys on the dance floor sometime soon. All the TA regulars, what can I say, you guys are party animals. I had an awesome time and hope Satoshi will be back again sometime this year.
